3 knew 4; he sensed his brother's mind like a sweet, pulling thing; on the edge of everything he undertook. 4 knew 3; he was never alone, and he had only to reach and find 3, like the warmth of a candle, hovering nearby. There was something calm and gentle and right about the way they fit together, hand to hand, hip to hip- just to rest their foreheads together and enter a world apart, just within their cowls. It was dark and secret where they went together, and they shared wordless things that would never be known. Far and away from the awful, warring world, 3 and 4 met, holding one another carefully, tightly.
Even if the world dropped away, when they surfaced from the dark, they would have each other- two parts to an unending whole.
