Prompt: Drained

Lindsay had let the cab circle Danny's building for nearly half an hour before she finally got out.

He missed her.

It wasn't exactly what she wanted to hear. She wanted to hear that he loved her, that he couldn't live without her, that his life had been a void of nothingness without her.

Okay maybe that was a little dramatic, but something along those lines would have been nice.

But he missed her and that was a start.

She headed up to his apartment, and then stopped…his apartment door was open and he was having a conversation with a woman.

With Rikki Sandoval.

Lindsay felt like she wasn't even in her body as she listened to them speak, as she realized exactly where Danny had been for the last few weeks, as she watched Rikki touch his cheek.

Danny had cheated on her…he'd cheated on her.

Suddenly Danny was closing the door, Rikki was turning, and then they were just staring at each other.

Lindsay suddenly unfroze and moved forward, "How long?" she asked.

"What?" Rikki said, clearly pretending that she didn't understand.

"How long have you been sleeping with my boyfriend?"

Rikki's mouth opened and closed a few times, "It wasn't like…I'm sorry, I didn't…"

"You know what the worst thing is about this?" she asked, ignoring the fact that Rikki had even spoken, "I can't even get mad at you. How can I? I've lost people before, I lost five friends to a terrible crime, and I know what that does. I know how it fucks you up inside and out and you lost your son…your son and so how can I stand here and get mad at you when you probably want to crawl out of your skin 23 hours of the damn day and the only hour you don't is that little bit of time you manage to sleep without nightmares."

Rikki's eyes widened as she looked at Lindsay, almost not believing someone could understand so well. Her hands were clenched together to the point that they were white and she bit on her bottom lip, "He doesn't love me. He doesn't even really know me. It was just a big mistake. He feels so bad about it, I can see it."

Lindsay nodded, "I'm sure he does."

"Please," Rikki said, coming closer only to have Lindsay back away. Rikki sighed and moved back, "Please don't let this ruin what you two have."

Lindsay took a deep breath, her eyes closing as she tried to control herself, "That's not really something you have any say in."

Rikki nodded, "I really am…I'm so sorry," she said, before turning and going into her apartment.

Lindsay stood there for a long time, looking at Rikki's door, then Danny's. She tried to keep the pain from flooding through her body and just…wrecking her.

She came here to talk to Danny, to try to work things out, but now her hand couldn't get to his door, couldn't knock. She was just…she was tired. She was done.

It was over…it was all just…over.
