Steady. I keep repeating that word in my mind, determined to keep myself in control. I can't let any more mistakes happen. I can't afford to slip up.
Steady. I breathe slowly, maintaining a regulated heart rate. I can feel the anticipation, but I beat it down. It is imperative I keep the upper hand over my own powers. I won't let the fire overrule me.
Wait. Eyes closed, I wait for Raimundo's command. I continue to channel my powers accordingly.
"Ready, Kimiko?" comes his inquiry.
I keep my eyes closed, but nod in reply.
Prepare. I extend my hands palms-up in front of me, then let the heat course through my arms.
"Alright, go ahead Clay," commands Raimundo.
Begin. I feel the large metal sheet make contact with my hands, then use my arms to support its weight as Clay lets go. The coolness of the sheet disappears as my hands channel heat into its underside at a steady rate.
Maintain. I am fixated on my control, oblivious to the three Xiaolin warriors watching me. Time passes as I gradually complete my task.
"How much longer?" asks Omi quietly.
"Shh," says Clay.
Wait. By the heat of the metal in my hands, I can tell I am almost through this.
"Almost there, Kimiko. Just a bit longer," Raimundo murmurs.
Push. I continue to maintain a steady exertion of heat from my hands. These last few moments are crucial.
"It's done!" exclaims Omi. The exclamation startles me and I almost lose my grip on the hot metal. However, I am just able to keep it from falling to the ground.
I open my eyes, glad to have accomplished my goal in what seems like record time. I look around at the boys, who are all excitedly looking right back at me.
"Go ahead and set it down Kim, you did really well," says Raimundo with a big smile.
I gratefully set the metal sheet down on the table next to me, as its weight was beginning to strain my arms. I stretch my arms out and let the heat fade from my palms in relief.
"You did a darn tootin' great job," says Clay approvingly to me. "I don't think I've ever seen a pizza get cooked that fast before!"
End.
