JUST TO SEE YOU SMILE
It had been years since he'd last seen her. Seeing her now was an unexpected, and wholly unwelcome jolt to his heart.
She was smiling, and she looked happy. And she was with a man.
He still had time, it doesn't look like she's noticed him. He could slip back in to the Leaky Cauldron, and Floo home before she notices him. But just one more look first...
Across the street, where she was laughing with her fiancé, she looked up, and blinked, shocked.
It had been too long since she'd seen him- far too long...
She had half hoped never to see him again. He was bad for her. When she was with him, nothing else mattered.
She had to tell him, though. Something told her she owed it to him.
"Come on, Jeff, there's someone I want to introduce to you. He's an old friend."
She could see curiosity rise in his eyes. She didn't talk about her old life and friends much, and Jeff had no idea she used to be a witch.
"Who is he?" He asked her as she led him across the street.
"Draco Malfoy, an old acquaintance, and Draco, this is my fiancé, Jeff Howles." She introduced the two.
Fiancé. Two blows, one after the other, no time to recover. She was back, here and engaged. She had disappeared with put a trace, five years ago, and now she was back. And engaged. Not his. Untouchable.
"Congratulations are in order, then. I'm happy for you. Surprised it's not Potter." Draco managed to choke out, a little bitterly, but the hesitant, brilliant smile she gave him was worth any pain.
I'm glad to see you're doing well, he continued. Everyone's missed you.
She looked at her watch, checking the time. We should be going, there's still so much to do. Come on, John.
The curiosity in his eyes, hadn't dimmed, and he looked like he wanted to stay and drill Draco on their relationship.
Why don't we go have lunch? He asked, impulsively. He wasn't quite willing to let her disappear fdrom his life quite yet. Besides, this is yours, anyway. I ordered it before you left, and just couldn't... He trailed of, gesturing to the package he was holding.
Sure. of course, we'd love to. Jeff jumped in.
Well, this was floating around in my head since I heard the lines I told you I was happy for you/ and given the chance I'd lie again in the song Just to See You Smile and it wouldn't leave me alone.
Tell me what you think, or if I should continue, and any suggestions, comments, or flames are welcome. I know it's kinda,... unadorned.
