Sleeping Child
"Go to sleep. I'll take first watch."
Akira smirked. "First watch? You serious? There's just the two of us, who are you gonna watch over?"
"You of course," he replied, as if it's the most obvious thing in the world.
She stared at him, trying to ignore the strange fluttering in her chest, or the strange effect the Hyuuga prodigy has on her. "I know, but what for? I can take care of myself."
It was Neji's turn to smirk, seeing the faint blush on her cheeks. "Yeah. But I'm just being careful of what's mine." He stood up. "Now go to sleep."
A tiny smile escaped from Akira's lips as she watched his retreating figure disappear into the darkness. It's true. He had never said he loved her. It was she who uttered the three words, albeit almost inaudible and quite grudgingly said. He only smirked and kissed her afterwards, being the arrogant genius he was.
But knowing Hyuuga Neji-the stoic, reserved, prodigy he is-well, that's his own brand of love.
Possessive, bordering on obsession. But honest. Sincere.
With a smile, Akira succumbed to sleep. The best she had in years.
Author's Notes:
My first oneshot here in FF..net. This is actually a part of a chapter I'm writing for my fanfic, Welcome Home.
Inspired by the song "Sleeping Child" by Michael Learns to Rock. Yes, yes, I'm old-fashioned like that.
Cheers!
