After mom and dad left the picture, Plato was left to look after Reia, his younger sister. Reia was a couple months younger than him. She had a similar appearance. Same white and copper fur patterns. The copper of her fur was only darker. She was shy and quiet, much to the contrast of her brother. Plato was loud, playful, and very social with other cats.
Reia's mate was a lot like her. He was shy and quiet. He was, in fact, Plato's best friend. His name was Admetus. Plato had no problem with this. Although, he did threaten to kill Admetus if he hurt Reia. Admetus swore never to do that to the queen he loved.
Admetus sat on the car with his arm around Reia. He softly licked her face and she purred.
"This is nice." he said.
"What is?" Reia asked.
"Just sitting here with my favorite queen."
Reia blushed. Admetus pulled her in closer to him. Reia let out a yawn.
"You tired?" Admetus asked.
"A little." Reia replied.
She rested her head on her mate's shoulder and began to drift off into sleep. The sleep didn't last long. It was interrupted by the sound of thunder crashing. Lightning struck the junkyard. Then there was the sound of a car drifting and crashing. Reia's head immediately shot up. Admetus had a tiny idea of what was going on.
Laughter spread through the junkyard. Evil, maniacal laughter. Admetus protected Reia by holding her tightly. A large red, black, white, and gold tom with sharp claws and uncombed whiskers jumped out in front of them. He was looking at them like they were a freshly cooked salmon.
"What do you want Macavity?" Admetus tried to be brave.
"Oh nothing." Macavity answered. "I just came to see how the lovekits are doing. Especially little Reia."
At that, Admetus knew exactly what Macavity wanted. He wanted Reia. He held her closer, protecting her from the fiend in feline shape.
"She sure is beautiful." Macavity continued. "It would be a shame if something happened to her. If someone hated by all of catkind got a hold of her."
Macavity just stared at Reia, making her feel uncomfortable, before finally saying, "Well I'll be going now."
Macavity ran off into his lair. Reia was so scared that she started to cry. Admetus gently stroked her fur and licked her forehead.
"Don't worry." he comforted her. "I won't let him hurt you. If he does, I'll do unspeakable things to him."
"Hey!" a voice called.
Admetus looked over his shoulder to see his best friend, Plato. Plato rushed over to the two of them.
"Coricopat and Tantomile just told me what happened." he said. "Are you two okay?"
Admetus was okay. Reia, the poor thing, was scared to death.
"Well," Admetus started. "your sister's terrified. Macavity wants her. If he gets to her, she'll be helpless."
Plato laid a paw on Reia's shoulder.
"It's okay, Reia." he told his sister. "Admetus and I will protect you from him. As long as you have us, he can't hurt you."
Reia didn't feel safer. Both Plato and Admetus had never faced any cat as dangerous as Macavity.
He'll destroy them! she thought. They'll get killed trying to fight him off!
Reia nuzzled into Admetus' chest and tried to hide underneath his arms. Plato rubbed her back. She was more scared than she had ever been.
