He sat on the railing, his emerald eyes gazing out at the moonlit ocean and his tail curled around him, when they came to him. Despite his aloof attitude, his highest men had come to know him, they liked to think, like a book. They knew his emotions could be as changing as the waves, and they knew, when he failed to snooze this night, that his heart was troubled with sorrow, grief, and guilt. Chris moved silently to stand beside Faith who caressed their leader's fur, and she let him stroke Salem's head. "None of us blame you, Salem."
