So, I don't suppose many people will read this. However, if you are THANKS; it means a heap. Both Lie to Me and the X-files are uber cool and yeah…enjoy!
Also, I would like to dedicate this to my best friend in the entire world, the gorgeous: MILLIE, because so often she finds herself in Cal's situation, listening to me drone on about something that happened on a TV show that she couldn't care less about but still, she listens and tells me "that's nice" or "that's very good". You mean the world to me best friend.
And if you do read please REVIEW :)
Another case. Another liar caught out. Another time Cal Lightman risked his life in search of the truth. Another time Gillian Foster looked on desperately, doing the little she could to help.
And yet another bottle of scotch to drown their sorrows in.
They sat together in a comfortable silence that night in Cal's office and when he opened his mouth to speak for the first time in hours, Gillian had half-heartedly hoped for some words of apology or comfort, considering everything they'd just been through. Instead she heard:
"Well, we're a bit like Mulder and Scully now days, aren't we?"
Sigh. It was Cal after all.
"Mulder and Scully?" She asked incredulously, eyebrows raised and lips parted.
"From the X-Files remember? That TV show about the two FBI agents who investigated alien abductions and the like. He believed in it all, you know 'the truth is out there'… a bit like yours truly," he added, pointing at his chest. "And then there was Scully, always the rational and clever one, making sure Mulder didn't get himself into too much trouble… like you, love."
He'd clearly thought this through…
Gillian stifled a laugh.
"Are you suggesting we fight earth invading aliens and investigate UFO sightings, Cal?"
"Ahh, I don't know, love. Whatever takes your fancy."
She swatted his arm for that comment.
"You know, I distinctly remember that Mulder and Scully got together towards the end of the show."
"Well like I said, Foster. Whatever takes your fancy."
"They also had an alien induced love child and Mulder was sentenced to death, before he and Scully ran away together," she said matter of factly.
"I never said we had to follow exactly in their footsteps…"
"And!" she said, sculling her drink before slamming the glass back down on the table and smiling exuberantly, "they were fugitives, and were abducted by aliens- Scully twice! And went to Antarctica and got buried alive and travelled back in time and got lost in a forest in Florida-"
"Jesus, Foster," he interrupted, "just how much of this show have you watched?"
Gillian looked momentarily offended before smiling sheepishly.
"Well, for a little while about 10 years ago, I was unemployed and you know, they used to show re-runs on day time TV. I had a lot of time on my hands back then," she offered by way of explanation.
Cal simply poured them both another drink, the sound of Gillian's voice beginning to drown out as she talked about the time Mulder and Scully investigated babies being born with tails in a small town. How very un-Gillian like an obsession with a show about the paranormal seemed.
"Cal? Cal? Are you listening to me?"
Shaken out of his reverie, he nodded politely and added a "that's very good, love."
Free to return to his thoughts for a few more minutes now, Gillian continued to talk excitedly, Cal began to wish that alien's colonisation and destruction of Earth would hurry up and come before Gillian could tell him anymore about the time Mulder ended up on a 1930's Nazi-commandeered ship in the middle of the Bermuda triangle.
"Oooh, and did you know the actress who played Scully, her name is Gillian too!"
Groan.
