I'm so incredibly busy, I'm so sorry for not posting anything for the longest time. I'll write the continuation to He Used to & I Did Too eventually.
"Kai-to," Aoko calls to him in a sing-song voice. Kaito turns around with a faint shade of surprise displayed on his face. Of course, it could've been the warm glow of the sunset that was settling upon the two.
It takes a moment for him to recollect himself. He had forgotten where he was, lost track of the time, and even for a blissful moment, he had forgotten who he was. It was Aoko who always kept his feet on the ground. And there she was, bringing him back to reality.
She smiles at him. "What are you doing here?" she asks. He shifts over to make room for her on the bench in the park. The bench faces the clock tower and they look at it as it becomes stained golden with the sunset's last rays. "Just thinking," he says casually. She's dressed in light blue jeans and a cream ruffled top with a blue cardigan. She's pretty and Kaito holds back at the faint voice in his head telling him to compliment her.
(You're beautiful)
Aoko takes a seat beside him and their shoulders touch, though neither of them seems to care too much. "What're you up to," he asks and she tells him she was meeting up with Keiko and a few other friends to go to the movies. "We're going to that really nice cake shop too afterwards. The one that just opened a week ago or so. A girl's night out." "Is that why you look cute today?" he asks quietly before he could stop himself. Really, it wasn't much of a compliment, but the renowned Kuroba Kaito doesn't ever say something as froufrou and flirtatious as that.
Aoko turns a pleasant shade of red. "Kaito, I-," she begins but is cut off by the ringing of the clock tower. A look of realization washes over her as they look over to the clock. "It's already seven, I need to go. See you!" she jumps up and gives him a small wave before running off. She's gone before he realizes he can say goodbye.
So quietly, he gets up from the bench and turns away from the face of the clock. "I'll see you later," Kaito says with a sigh, but there's a smile on his face nevertheless.
