There were about 100 feet below him. Nothing but air and the view of city. The city, filled with explosions, horriffied people and terrifying metal creatures from lunatic's ill fantasy.
There was battle. He heard shooting and saw creatures fighting each other four against four with a bunch of human soldiers, the second ones loosing.
There was a boy. A young seventeen-year-old boy who tried his best to outrun the metal titan, pressing some kind of a cube-looking thing tight to his chest, as if wishing to merge this the source of the alien life.
He couldn't see the giant's face - only two lights, as scarlet as blood, as cold as the freezing breath of the dead world. It was a living nightmare, many times worse than death, because even death has its mercy.
The boy ran fast but the beast of madness was faster. It couldn't caught up with the tiny human - miracle of all the miracles - but it had the boy soon enough. The boy was standing on the edge of the roof with nowhere to go.
Where was a little choice left. The boy was going to die in any case of scenario but at least he could die as a hero, not like metal creature's pet.
He saw the blood-eyed monster making its strike, fierce and deadly, and the boy falling from the tall building.
Immidiately he was falling as well, injured and full of fear, like an angel rejected by Heavens.
Somehow he knew that HE was the boy, stubbornly holding the cube.
The soil was so close... He was about to hit it, with no chance of survival, no hope for help, no one to say his failure wasn't his fault...
Somebody's hands curled protectively around his chest, easing the pain and calming the terror with pulsing wave of confidense. "I will always be there for you" - came soft whisper, and he turned to see his own guardian angel smiling to him.
"I have failed" - he didn't make any sound but heard himself. The angel smiled wider, reasurring him with a hug.
"You have not".
Few inches before brutal lending...
"Don't be afraid. I won't let anything hurt you".
He never hit the ground. He didn't mind that his guardian angel was of bright yellow with cerulean electrical eyes.
