an: ok so I just fancied doing a short little doctor who one-shot, may turn this into a story depending on the responce, enjoy

She knew he would be fine, he had to be, she held the bloodied knife in her hands, the same knife that had pierced his heart only a second ago, she sighed sadly, he was growing too old, too careless, too trusting, too kind, she knew that one day, it would be the final death of him, the final death of the greatest man she could ever know.

River song watched as the everlasting light faded in his ancient eyes, she wondered why he hadn't asked about the knife in her hand before, she supposed it was because everyone had one on this planet, he had refused to take one, of course, her single greatest man who could take down a civilisation and defeat a fleet of alian ships, armed only with his mind and a screw-driver, he was magnificent, he didn't even hate her for killing him, he had died eleven times now, the prospect didn't even frighten him any-more,

Why hadn't it started yet? The regeneration? For a moment she panicked, was he dying for real this time? Behind her there were quick, light footsteps, and out of the dark appeared a bedraggled, battered, yet relieved looking amy, she was the reason she had had to do this solumn deed, it was kill the doctor, or let amy die, a million miles away from home, it wasn't a choice, amy's face fell when her eyes fell upon the doctor, River gently laid him to the floor, a lone tear running down her cheek, amy fell to her knees beside him taking his hand in hers, river following suit, he looked up at the two figures around him, his eyes glazed, his shirt bloody, his bowtie drooping sadly, he gave river 'the look', the one where you can see right into his soul, straight into the 900 years of pain suffering, and happieness, his face brightened when he saw amy, alive, despite of everything, he turned back to face river " thank-you" he choked, before his head fell back, then, the familier ghostly mist wafted around him, singing the song of the last time-lord and all his glory.

All river could do was hope he forgave her.
