Chapter 1: Rituals

The woman ran through the dark roads and fumbled with the right keys. Finally getting to her apartment building, she unlocked the door and hurried inside. She ran up the two flights of stairs in an instant and opened the door to her apartment. Slamming it behind her she locked it and breathed a sigh of relief. She heard a rustle from her kitchen and looked up from taking off her shoes.

"Hello?" she asked hesitantly

Hearing another rustle she walked into the kitchen cautiously and looked around; nothing. She sighed and turned to see a man towering over her.

"No!"

"It's time..." he said and stuck the sharp object in the side of her neck

Dean continued to look through his inbox though he heard his brother scream. He laughed and looked up to see a very angry Sam standing there, towel wrapped around his waist.

"What did you do!" he asked angrily and pointed to his now red hair

"Just some hair dye Sammy," Dean said stifling another chuckle

"Isn't that supposed to be affective in like awhile!"

"Lucky for me, I know your beauty rituals."

"Jerk," Sam commented and escaped into the bathroom

By the time Sam had come back out Dean was writing down an address. Sam came up behind him.

"What's up?"

"Woman was murdered in California," he said

"How?"

"They said, odd marks on her neck, she lost a lot of blood."

"Yet, of course there is something else going on."

"Of course little brother."

Sam shook his head, "Not one day's rest, huh?"

"Not in our profession."

Dean copied down the last bit and handed it to Sam. He finished packing his bags and packed up the laptop.

"You ready dude?" he asked the younger Winchester

"As always."

Sam finally pulled into a diner parking lot and shook his brother. Dean woke up with a grunt and sat up.

"Where the hell are we?"

"Diner, let's go," Sam answered getting out of the car anxiously

They entered the small diner and looked around to find that there was only one other customer there; a petite woman in the far corner. They walked farther in and sat down at one of the tables.

"So, what you thinks going on?" Sam asked

"I don't know, vamps, or some crap like that…"

"Hmm…"

"What?" Dean asked in frustration

"Maybe we should ask that girl if she knows anything."

Dean looked over at her and smirked, then looked back at his little brother. Dean shrugged.

"Well, go, what are you waiting for?"

Sam rolled his eyes, "Why do I have to do it?"

"It was your idea buddy; therefore, you have to carry it out."

"I'll remember this," he muttered and stood up

He walked over to the girls table and she looked up while slapping the book she was reading shut.

"Hi," she said with a friendly smile

"Hi, um, do you mind if I ask you a few questions?"

"Uh, sure, the names Keira," she said and stuck out her hand

"Oh, yeah, my name is Sam," he said taking the girls hand in a firm grip

He sat down on the other side of the table and cleared his throat.

"Do you know anything about the murder up in California?"

Her expression turned to confusion, "California? I was just heading up there."

"Really, for what?"

She hesitated, "Well, a project. Anyway, no, I know nothing. Sorry…"

"That's okay, thanks for your time," he said and stood up

"Good-bye."

"Bye," he said with a smile before heading back over to his table

Dean smirked at him, "Get something? Oh, I mean figure out something?"

"Ha ha, funny, and no; she doesn't know anything."

"Look at Sammy, getting his flirt on," Dean muttered

"What? Jealous?"

"Ha ha, you're funny," Dean imitated his brother

Sam laughed as the waitress came to them.
