a/n: Yay for Troyella! This takes place post-HSM2. High School Musical is getting more and more difficult for me to write about, so please don't judge me; I'm so used to writing Hannah Montana now!...

disclaimer: I do not own Hannah-...er, High School Musical. :p

Quietly, softly, slowly, Gabriella Montez was letting her walls down. And for what? One boy. One sweet, sensitive, loving boy. She had done this before, though; gotten her hopes up only to be let down.

Her mother had an odd fascination with moving. Sure, Ana Montez liked to blame her and Gabriella's moves on her company, but only Gabriella knew the whole truth. Ana Montez wasn't one to get attached emotionally to a certain place. Ana Montez was a free spirit.

So as she flipped through a magazine in the dentist's office on the first day of summer, she couldn't help but get a little teary-eyed.

Something was going to happen. Something bad. Nothing that a TV Guide from 1987 could have predicted.

Her cell phone vibrated in her pocket, and she reached to fish it out.

TROY'S CELL the small screen read in large letters.

"Hello?" Gabriella answered smally.

"Gabriella, I'm glad I caught you. U of A just offered me a scholarship! Can you believe it?!"

Gabriella could feel the tears she'd so defiantly held begin to spill; "I have to go, Troy."

She was going to Harvard, and he would be staying in Albuquerque.

The TV Guide from 1987 served as a cushion for Gabriella's tears.

She couldn't believe this. Harvard. University of Albuquerque.

She could feel the walls build up again.

Extremely sad, isn't it? I wrote this 10 minutes before my bus comes, though, so who can really blame me?
