As I ran around the field during practice, I noticed Matt's, girlfriend sitting beneath a tree off to the side of the field. Becky Miller, nicknamed 'Farmgirl' by yours truly, had somehow turned my best friend into her boyfriend. Personally, I couldn't really see what he liked, but maybe he dug deeper than I normally do. That sounds about right. Yeah.
Becky suddenly jumped to her feet, and a black-haired girl walked up to her, her black combat boots appearing clumsy, though they made her already-pale skin seem even more so. I tripped over my feet as I ignored a now-familiar thudding resonating in my chest.
Coach blew his whistle, and stomped over angrily. "Mitchell!" he roared, face red from anger. "Where's your head?! We've got a game tomorrow, and suddenly you can't even run basic drills?!" He muttered a few curses under his breath and called for us to take a break.
Scrambling to my feet as quickly as I could, I ran off the field, scooping up my water bottle as I passed it on my way to stand behind the bleachers. I scowled at the grass beneath my feet when I leaned against the fence that was not even five feet away from the bleachers, then glanced up.
I gaped at a piece of graffiti written on one of the posts on the back of the bleachers, stumbling forward to make sure I read it correctly. Sure enough, I had.

Kindergarten
"And what do you want to be when you grow up, Raven?" Mrs. Peevish asked warily.
"I want to be... a vampire!" Raven Madison exclaimed, earning wide-eyed stares from everyone in the room, including a five-year old me. The teacher shook her head with a sigh.

"Owh!" I yelled, wrenching my hand away from Raven, who'd just sunk her teeth into the flesh between my thumb and forefinger. "You... freak!" I screamed, pointing at her
My Fifth Birthday Party
My mother had made me invite everyone in my class, including the extremely weird Raven girl. She was nicer than I'd have expected, though it only weirded me out even more. But when I opened the gift she'd brought, it was a Dracula figure...
And I just couldn't trash it.
End Flashbacks
I smiled softly, rubbing my thumb against the words that were written in Sharpie. For a moment I wondered who had scribbled them there, my mind automatically whisking to Raven herself, though that had to be impossible, unless it was part of her attempts to embarrass me...
I clenched my jaw as my heart gave a painful throb in my chest, and I took a long, greedy swig from my water bottle before heading back to the field, violently throwing the bottle down as I passed my bag.
I glanced over at Raven and Becky once, to see my monster girl spin her head around to face her friend. Maybe she'd been looking at me... She turned her head awfully quickly when I glanced her way...
But maybe not. She was the resident vampire girl, after all... "As if she'd want someone like you anyways, Trevor..."
