Chapter 1: The Asauchi in the Fog
Kimitori Rei was sleeping soundly. No, he was dreaming. Dreaming about his inner world. Rei looked around. He was surrounded by fog with an indigo sky. Wait a second! He was in the sky, standing on clouds.
"Is anyone here!" Rei shouted. An echo followed his voice. As if he was suddenly thrashed into an icy ocean, Rei felt extreme chills. He turned around. There he saw a burly man with a triangular hat in all white. He looked extremely pale with bright, almost glowing grey blue eyes.
"Are you my Zanpakto Spirit?" Rei seemed completely confused. He had never entered his inner world much less on accident while sleeping. All the specter did was move his lips. No sound came out. The spirit made a menacing smile with a sinister glint in his eyes.
"You incompetent excuse for a Shinigami! I'm still an Asauchi!!! You can't even hear my name!" the spirit shocked Rei with his insults more than the fact that he could hear them.
"Can I only hear your insults!?!" Rei was befuddled and he would get more confused as everything started to fade to black. He was being forced out of his Inner World.
"Come on Rei! Wake up! We're going to be late for our last week in the academy!" A green haired girl with a shoulder length ponytail violently shook Rei.
"I'm up, I'm up! No, don't kick me! Stop it Kana!" Rei winced; it was too late. A sandal mark was on his face. "Owie!"
"That's what you get!" Kana smirked. "Come on, Kaite is waiting in the hall for us. He probably left already." Rei and Kana walked out to the hall. Kana was right; she always was right and Rei hated it. They walked past the hall toward the main hall in the Shinigami Academy.
"Good day trainees," said the 1st Division Lieutenant, Chojiro Sasakibe. He was the one who usually assigned lessons for the new and upcoming Shinigami. "Today I will be speaking to you about Zanpakuto. You!" he pointed to black haired girl.
"M-me?" she quivered.
"Yes! What is a Zanpakuto?"
"Umm, it's a sword that is a part of a Shinigami's soul. It is one of the only weapons that can cut souls and can send them to the Soul Society."
"My my you are quite knowledgeable in Zanpakutos," the 1st lieutenant went on, "but do you know your Zanpakuto's name?"
"Well, ummm, no?" the girl answered back.
"Then find out!!!" Everyone jumped. "Today you guys will be converting Reikiken into Zanpakuto. To do it you will have to shout the name of your Zanpakuto."
"Shout the name of my Zanpakuto," Rei thought. "Does that mean I have to go back to my Inner World and face him again?" Rei shivered and remembered what his Zanpakuto spirit told him. "You incompetent excuse for a Shinigami! You can't even hear my name!"
"Fourty-eight hours!" the lietenant shouted, is all you have. If you don't then you'll have your Shinigami powers revoked and forced out into the real world!"
Rei looked toward the wooden sword. Something told him he wouldn't look forward to tomorrow...
