This is entirely in Danny's POV.

98. Breaking Point

Danny found himself staring blankly at the dry landscape; he could no longer see the road. That was good. He didn't need anyone to come about, to see what he was planning. Amity Park needed him to go through with this. His hand curled around the gun he had stolen. He couldn't bring himself to pay for it, not for what he was about to do with it.

It started with his failed test, one that ensured he failed the math class for the term. Actually, it started before the test results, before the test even. The test just confirmed his thinking, confirmed for him what he had to do. What he needed to do to protect this town. It wouldn't, it can't matter. He can't matter; his human life and dreams had long been shattered. He would never be able to become an astronaut, not with his grades. Three years since the portal was opened, three years of constant ghost-battling and failing grades. He could no longer keep up – if he was ever keeping up with this life.

This was the only way. He could protect Amity Park this way, protect it completely without interference. They won't understand at first or maybe at all. But he was the hero and he needed to be there entirely, without being held back by human life.

He was oddly calm as he held the gun in his mouth. The town needed a full-time hero and his human life was ruined anyway. Danny Fenton pulled the trigger.
