The Fallen Soldier

Memories
I don't own any of the Star Trek characters.
Summary: Jim is in a horrible depression over the death of his son. There is only one person that can get him out of it. That's Spock.
A/N: This is my first fanfiction story ever. I thought I give it a try, it sounded fun to do. Please let me know how you like it. You're more than welcome to give constructive criticism on my story.
It was a quiet day on the bridge. It was quiet for a very different reason than usual. Not only was there no negotiating with Klingons, explosions on the ship, or helping a planet in need, but the main reason it was quiet was because the captain was not in his chair. In fact, he was in his room. The death of his son was less than a week ago. Ever since then, Kirk has not been himself. He has eaten anything. He's barely slept. He's been in a deep depression that he can't get out of no matter what. No matter what Russian joke Chekov tells him, no matter how many times McCoy tells him to snap out of it, and no matter who tells him how heroic his son was, it still doesn't help. The only man that has been able to speak to and even see Jim is Spock. Jim knows that if anyone is going to get him out of his depression, that Vulcan is the one that surely will.

On the 7th day of Jim's depression was the day that it ended. It was around 20:00 hours. Spock came into Jim's room to report what went on during the day. As Spock finished the report and was leaving, Jim stopped him.
"Spock… wait."
"Yes Captain?"
"Spock…sit down, please"
Spock did as his captain requested.
"Spock, I'm tired of being like this. I want to be myself again but I need your help to do it."
"What can I do for you?"
"Control my mind to be happy." said Kirk.
"It's not that simple Jim"
"All I want to know is can you make me have happy thoughts Spock?"
"Yes" said Spock.
"Than do it." said Jim
"I think I should tell you what exactly I'm going to do to you. You should know, it's your mind." said Spock
"Fine. Tell me."
"I'm simply going go through your thoughts and find only the happiest thoughts of your son and your life, and bring them to the front of your mind and push the bad thoughts as far back in your mind as possible."
"Will I remember the bad thoughts at all?" asked Jim
"Very unlikely. I'm pushing the thoughts back to where your memories as an infant are. However, you still will know that your son is dead."
"Okay. Do it now Spock. PLEASE!!!"
With that cry for help, Spock put his right hand on Jim, they both closed their eyes, and the process began.
Jim saw a huge range of memories. The sad ones were fading slightly, than all of a sudden, as if a weight had been lifted from his shoulders, he couldn't remember the sad thoughts. All he could see and think about in his mind was first seeing his son. That made Jim think of his childhood. The great memories he had with his dad. Then he heard Spock say:
"Jim it's over, open your eyes."
Jim opened them and he realized he was smiling. Jim wanted to just give Spock a big huge, but seeing as Spock wouldn't return it, he instead just extended his hand for a handshake.
"Thank you Spock, you saved me."
"Of course…I had to… because I am and forever shall be your friend."
