She was thoroughly infuriating, true, but there was little else he liked about her. Nobody else he knew could rouse so much or so many emotions in him and usually all at once!
Toph folded her arms as the Avatar glared at her.
"Why do you have to be so impossible?" he said pinching the ridge of his nose and sighing.
"Oh, you think I'm impossible? Try teaching a lion raven to swim, that's impossible," she said with a smirk and a gleam in her pale sightless eyes. She'd had enough of arguing, but she wasn't going to give in for anything. Aang sighed again and walked towards her.
"Uh-uh, don't you take one more step. I'm warning you..." she said getting ready to bend.
Aang smiled and took another step.
"Now, why would I do that?" he asked, his voice taking on a low timbre. She knew that tone of voice anywhere.
"Aang, you stay where you are or I'll... I'll..."
"You'll what?" he asked. He was getting closer. She threw up her arms and pushed a wall of rock between them. Smiling, Aang brought down the wall and pushed Toph towards him with air bending, right into his waiting arms.
"That was sneaky," she said faking a pout. Truth was, she loved being in his arms.
"I know," he said and tipped up her chin, "but you love me anyway."
With that, he picked her up and kissed her then swung her around. She laughed and held on then immediately bent earth under him. He let go immediately and Toph smirked as she landed daintily on her feet.
"You should have listened," she said and brushed some dust off her tunic.
"Maybe," he said behind her. She hadn't expected that. Her blindness was proving to be a real disadvantage in these spars of theirs. Before she could move, he swept her off her feet and leapt into the air landing safely on his sky bison.
Appa grunted as Aang set her gently on the bison's back and sat at Appa's head. Toph crossed her arms.
"That was underhanded," she said.
"Ah, but you insisted on coming along, so..."
"I'm not going to put up with this," she said.
Aang smiled.
"Well darling, I'll be sure to apologise for whatever I do to you on the journey when we get where we're going."
Toph smiled and sat back. Being married to the Avatar was one adventure after another, and she wouldn't have it any other way.
