A/N: Okay, so, this is a fan fiction piece and I'm going to write it as such. It's not copied from S Meyers leaked draft and furthermore it's Edward's POV; as well as other people in the book who aren't and never will be Bella Swan. Of course, original dialogue will differ.

Enjoy!

I. - Michael Newton's first sight…

It was the first day of another uneventful year at Forks Washington's only High School. I didn't want to seem like a nerd about my summer vacation, so I allowed everyone else to go on about theirs and quickly inserted information when needed. Most of my seventeen years of life had been spent saying one single thing that was important - that wasn't going on in Forks, of course - and allowing the other person to make more conversation while I listened and nodded. I was at my new locker that particular morning when I saw someone.

This was pivotal… because it was someone new.

"Ben," I snagged my best friend's arm and pointed, whispering urgently. "Who's the girl?"

He pushed his dark bangs out of his face and squinted in concentration. "I don't know."

"It's the Swan girl," Eric Yorkie pointed out to us; I noted he looked a little more excited then what was necessary. "I'm thinking about asking her out, she's kind of odd and cute."

"And just how long will that last?" Tyler Crowley came over to complete our circle.

"So…" Ben looked between us three. "You're all interested in the Swan girl?"

The sound of the bell shrilled and I took that opportunity to break away from the sudden tenseness. I noticed immediately that the Swan girl was headed in the direction of my first class and as I hurried to catch up to her, I wracked my brain to remember what to call her.

'Brandy… Bessie…Bernie…'

"Hi, I'm Mike Newton!"

She turned to me in her jeans and gray sweat jacket. "Um… Bella."

When I looked over my shoulder, I saw one of the Cullen's had their eyes on us.

"I think we have the same class together, do you think I can walk you there?"

Bella gave me a once - over and shrugged. "Sure." She was as ordinary as I could tell but the Cullen's eyes on her made me more alert. 'She's something else. I've got to find more out about here.' I deliberately thought as if he could hear my thoughts. This is what I did when I wanted to throw someone off. I thought of saying the things I knew would make them angry and it made me feel more in control. When he turned to leave, we did as well.

To be continued…
