These Mistakes I've Made

Bartemius Crouch was a proud, strict man, who followed rules to their very letter, and did everything by proper procedrue. He took pride in doing things properly and never regretted the way he lived his life until it was nearly up.

On his death bed, whilst his son spoke bitter words to him, and told him of his plans to kill him, Barty Crouch Senior began to regret some of his past decisions.

He wished he'd been a better father.

If he'd not worked so much as a younger man, he could have prevented his son from going off the rails in the first place.

If he'd payed more attention to his wife all those years ago, he could have helped her to put their boy on the right tracks.

If he hadn't followed the rules so strictly, he could have found a loophole - could have tried ot save his son from Azkaban. Though his crime has henious, so perhaps this much was impossible. Still - to send his own son to prison . . . he could have spared the boy, and his wife, the indignance, and had someone else oversee things.

Then when he managed to aid his wife in freeing their son, he ruined things by keeping the boy caged up in the house.

If only he'd been a better father, maybe he could have made his son into a better person too.

And if only he'd been a better man, he would have had the courage to be a better father.
