This is my first time writing with Lee and Gai. Sorry if it's terrible...

The Perfect Present

An alarm rang throughout the bedroom, but was immediately cut off as a hand slammed down on the clock. Rock Lee shot out of bed and ran to his kitchen. He was already dressed, since he made sure everything was ready the night before. He gulped down a glass of orange juice, glancing at the clock every few seconds. He hoped to be the first to visit his sensei on this very special day.

He ran towards his front door, but suddenly halted.

"Wait a minute!" Lee exclaimed. He turned and grabbed a palm-sized package.

Lee shook his head, amused at his forgetfulness.

"How could I forget this?"

Then, he bolted out the door and ran as fast as he could towards his destination. The few people that were outside quickly jumped out of Lee's way as he ran past, wondering why a young boy was in such a hurry so early in the morning.

Lee stopped in front of the door of a quaint, comfy-looking house. He tried to calm himself down; he certainly didn't want to frighten his sensei with his over-enthusiasm!

He was about to knock on the door, when it flew open and Lee's wonderful mentor, Gai, stood there with his arms wide open.

"Lee!" Gai yelled passionately, crushing his student in his embrace.

"Gai-sensei!" Lee yelled and cried onto Gai's shoulder. "It's finally that time of year!"

Gai pulled out of the embrace and rested his hands on Lee's shoulders.

"Lee! You remembered!" There were tears streaming down Gai's face.

"Of course, Gai-sensei!"

They stood there weeping for a few moments before Gai finally ushered Lee into his house.

"Gai-sensei!" Lee said, after he got himself settled in the living room, "It took me days to think of what to give you as a birthday gift, but it was worth it. I found the PERFECT present!"

"The PERFECT present?" Gai repeated and Lee nodded excitedly.

Lee handed his mentor the small package. Gai slowly unwrapped it, making sure not to rip the green, turtle-covered gift wrapping. He slowly lifted the box's lid, holding his breath in suspense. His face fell when he saw the box's contents.

He had in his palm... a tiny Kakashi plushie!

"Now you have a matching set!" Lee said, his face beaming.

Gai could only stare.

Two days earlier.

Using all the stealth he could muster, Lee slowly crept up towards Gai's bedroom window. He knew this was wrong, but Lee was getting desperate. He had yet to get a birthday present for his teacher and he was running out of precious time! He decided that looking through Gai's bedroom may give him a few ideas. He only hoped that Gai would forgive him.

He continued to advance towards the window, glad that it was wide open. He was mere feet away, but froze as he heard a booming voice.

Oh no, that's Gai-sensei, Lee thought.

"Kakashi, my eternal rival! I laugh at your futile attempts of defeating me!" And Gai laughed.

Lee blinked. Is Kakashi in Gai-sensei's bedroom?!

Lee let that thought linger, until his curiosity was simply eating at him.

Against his better judgment of running away in terror, Lee crawled to the window and peeked in. His jaw dropped.

Gai was insulting none other than Kakashi the cardboard cutout.
