Rain

"You're such a bore. Nobody should be playing shouji alone." Temari leaned against the inside of the doorway, kicking a foot towards the other side and missing. "I want to go out." Crossing her arms over her chest, she examined him lethargically. "You've been sitting there for hours!"

"Why go out? It's raining." Shikamaru nibbled on his upper lip before moving a castle across the board. Pausing for a second before removing his fingers, he let out a small noise of contentment and completed his move. "Nobody should be going out in the rain at night." Shrugging, he stuck his legs out wide around the board and flopped down on the floor. "Let's just stay inside. It's easier and we won't have to clean up all the water we'd trek in."

"I like being out in the rain at night." Stepping towards his reclining figure, she loomed ominously over him. You know it doesn't rain much in Suna. Don't you want to have a little bit of fun?" She kicked him playfully on the shins.

"I have fun playing shouji alone, and that's what I want to do." Pushing himself up on his elbows, he peered over the board. "Could you move the right king one space closer to that pawn for me?"

"Why is my boyfriend a lazy nerd?" She straddled him and knelt down over his stomach, leaning her head down until his nose touched hers. Running her hand down his fishnet shirt, she whispered, "Can't play it now, can you?" She let out a triumphant snort.

"I can't go outside either. Maybe I'll just go to sleep." He shut his eyes and blew hot air in her face. "Sleep is nice. You should try it sometime. A real rewarding experience."

Ignoring his heated breath, she pressed her forehead against his. Stealthily, she snaked her hands closer to his pants. "Maybe I'll sit on you till you agree to go outside." With a wide grin on her face, she settled herself on his stomach.

Shikamaru cracked one of his eyes open and gave her a slight frown. "You're such a difficult woman. Don't you want to cook or something? I'm kinda hungry." His frown deepened. "Very hungry, actually."

"You're such a chauvinist." She wound herself around his chest, burying her face in his shoulder.

"No, I'm not." Pausing contemplatively for a second, he wiggled his bottom lip and tapped his nails on the ground. "I'm chivalrous. Yeah, chivalrous." His fingers wound through her hair.

She sighed and lightly kissed him on the neck. "Then be chivalrous and take your girl out for a nice walk."

An annoyed groan. "Still stuck on that, are we. Tomorrow." He tugged at one of her pigtails and grinned.

"But it won't be raining tomorrow. Hey, stop that!" She tried to grab his fleeting arm, giggles rising into full-fledged laughter as he stealthily eluded her.

"All the better."

"Not for me." She caught him by the wrist and smirked in triumphant victory. "We're going tonight."

With that and a bit of grumbling from the defeated party, it was decided. Temari always got her way, though Shikamaru wasn't quite sure why. He also wasn't quite sure why he was dating this girl in the first place.

But as her soaked body pressed against his, he decided he didn't need to figure out why. He was a simple man, with simple goals and a simple existence. Whispering soft words of affection as he held her tightly in his arms, he could feel her harsh demeanor tumble away. What was left was his Temari, the soft Temari she didn't show to anybody else. After awhile he ran out of words, and they stood in silence, two young lovers bound together in the pouring rain.
