And Then There Were None

"On Edge"

Chapter 1

Gil Grissom sat quietly at his desk twirling his glasses with his fingers. He was in his own little world again, looking at pictures of crime scene. The opera music was playing loudly. He had never encountered such a murder or should we say murders in his life. Ten massacred people on one tiny island. No one ever thought that anger, or grudge, or whatever could come to this. This massacre was placed on a whole new level of crime scene investigation and it was up to the best lab in the nation to solve it. This one couldn't be tagged up on the fish board, as something that got away. . .

"Gil? Gil!" Catherine Willows exclaimed as she reduced the volume of her coworker's infamous music.

"Catherine, I'm trying to work." Gil replied sourly.

"I know, so am I, but my department leader has not issued me anything." Catherine said with a snarl. They were both on edge. Conrad Ecklie, like gum in your hair, he was the most unnerving creature in the department. He had just been promoted above the whole C.S.I. team, and he had been running them around like a dead person's grandchildren searching for gold. They were all exhausted.

Gil gave Catherine a complicated look. It was a mix between selfishness and aggravation. His eyes had iced over. Catherine had never seen this look before. The abnormal look triggered a more sympathetic tone on her behalf. "Look, I haven't been watching or reading the news lately but Ecklie said that there was a sickening assassination occurring on that island off the coast of California, and we have been handed the case on a silver platter considering all the people lived in Vegas. Gil, just calm down and explain to the team what happened. Tell us all what we need to do, and we'll solve the case. I guarantee you.

Gil wasn't so sure. A murder like this had only occurred in books. Where a large number of people were massacred, one by one until there were none, and the murderer was no where to be found. This murderer was a sociopath who had a thing for Agatha Christie novels.
