A/N: Yeah, another one shot. I've been writing a lot of them lately. Anyway, I was thinking about how Revy occasionally seems superhuman and then I pictured the misery she'd face if she was fishing, so I put two and two together.
Well, I hope you enjoy.
Rock and Revy Go Fishing
"I can't believe you talked me into doing this." Revy said, watching Rock, in annoyance, as he gleefully tied a hook to the end of a fishing line. They were sitting in a small dinghy that Dutch kept on the Black Lagoon in case of emergencies. Some dispute between Hotel Moscow and some out of town faction had started up so, upon Balalaika's suggestion, the Lagoon Company decided to wait out the action at one of the nearby, uninhabited islands.
"Come on, Revy," he said with a smile, "Fishing's a great way to relax. Just sit back, grab a beer, and try to enjoy yourself." He held the now baited rod out for her, she took it, reluctantly.
"Whatever," she tried casting the line, but only managed to land the hook about two feet from the boat. "Fuck."
"Use your wrist," Rock suggested.
"Hmm?" Revy said without hiding her displeasure.
"Don't swing your arm so much. Just try snapping your wrist." With a sigh of annoyance she reeled in the line and did as she was told. She managed to make a decent cast, much to her chagrin. "So, what now?" she asked as Rock removed his white business shirt, revealing his undershirt, and cast out his own line.
"Now," Rock let out a relaxed sigh, "we wait," he smiled, obviously enjoying himself. Revy, on the other hand, was growing increasingly pissed at her co-worker.
"Fuck that, I'm not going to sit in some shitty boat with you, waiting for a fucking fish to eat the fucking worm you call bait."
"Oh, come on, Revy. You should try to take pleasures in the simple things. Besides, we're not docking today, so we're eating what we catch. We can't go back to the boat empty-handed."
"You know, Rock," Revy said as she reeled in the line and layed the rod in the boat. "I don't have much patience for these kind of things."
"So, what are you going to do? Shoot the fish?" he laughed.
Suddenly he heard three gunshots and turned around in shock, "Revy, what are you doing?" he screamed, "That's not going to…work?" he stared in a mixture of amazement and confusion as three fish rose to the surface of the water, each with a bullet hole through an eye.
"Would you look at that, Rock," Revy said, "looks like I'm done for today. I'll take these back to Dutch and Benny." she scooped the three fish up, wrapped them in Rock's business shirt, and jumped into the water. "Don't worry about me, it's only about a hundred yards back to the island. Good luck with catching YOUR dinner." she started swimming away; Rock could hear her laughing in the distance.
Rock watched her, confused, "There is no way that's possible," he looked overboard, expecting to see fish on the surface, but all he saw was the deep blue water. "how did she….there's no way….does she ever obey the laws of physics?..." he sat there, pondering the issue before simply shrugging it off and, with a grin, returning to his own fishing.
"Well," he said, putting the issue behind him, "at least now it's quiet." He smiled, took a deep breath, and enjoyed the serenity…
