A/N: This is my first fic, so please review with your comments/criticisms etcetera. Flames welcome, so I can flame you back. Mwahaha =P. This story is set 10 years after Harry's graduation from Hogwarts. Voldemort has taken over most of Europe, and the last stronghold is Britain. Can they hold on?
One Last Tear of Hope, Chapter 1
Professor Potter walked quickly towards the office of his mentor, former headmaster, and friend, Albus Dumbledore. The Death Eaters had infiltrated their defenses, and an attack on Hogwarts was becoming ever more imminent.
Breathing heavily, Harry met up with his girlfriend Hermione Granger in the hall. Seeing his worried look, Hermione looked at him with an expression of concern.
"What now?" Hermione asked.
Harry sighed heavily, in part worried, in part disgusted.
"They've broken through the line. It's becoming clear that an attack is imminent. Sybill is upstairs with her crystal ball right now," Harry replied.
Seeing that he was worried, Hermione spared him the snide remark about Professor Trelawney's Divination abilities. In fact, over the years of Voldemort's return to power, Hermione had actually begun to trust Trelawney somewhat, although, she still often doubted her authenticity.
Hermione sighed, and squeezed Harry's hand reassuringly. "You know what they say..Dumbledore is one of Voldemort's most feared enemies. If anyone can stop him, it's Albus."
Harry's lips went upward in something of a smile, which surprised him and his girlfriend, considering the circumstances.
"What?" she asked.
"You're right, you're right, but with his torturings of Minerva and Remus, who knows how many of our secrets he knows..."
Hermione hit him lightly. "Look on the bright side, why don't you Mr. Optimist?" she joked. Then she turned serious again. "How are those two, anyway?" she inquired.
Harry sighed. "Minerva's making a full recovery, but Remus is having ever more problems with his transformation. The repeated Cruciatus Curses seem to have made the wolf in him more angry that normal."
Harry and Hermione reached Dumbledore's office. They gave the password to the infamous stone gargoyle, and climbed the circular staircase, and knocked on his door.
A voice came from inside the room. "Come in, Mr. and Mrs. Potter."
Harry grinned and Hermione blushed. That was one of Albus's oldest jokes, him always saying that it was about time they got married. Harry knew that Hermione wanted to get married, but Harry had never had the guts to ask her.
Harry held the door open for Hermione, like the gentleman he always had been. They sat down in the two chairs in front of Dumbledore's desk, his back to them, looking out the window.
"How are you two?" he inquired pleasantly.
The two sighed simultaneously, sparking a chuckle from Dumbledore.
"We've been better," replied Harry. Dumbledore spun his chair around.
"I know. He's broken through the perimeter. We're bringing the castle's security procedures up to scratch, and the Ministry's office in the basement has launched a large contingent of Aurors to try and combat their new movements."
Since Harry's fourth year, Cornelius Fudge, a bungling pompous idiot, had been ousted and replaced with Minerva McGonagall. She was currently recovering in the hospital wing, however, so Severus Snape had temporarily taken her place. The Ministry had also relocated to Hogwarts, because the office in London had been destroyed by some of Voldemort's more talented Death Eaters.
Dumbledore stood. "Now, I have a job for you two."

A/N: Apologies for the cliffhanger, but please R/R! Next chapter will be up sometime soon..if I don't come down with a horrible case of writer's block. Damn, I probably just jinxed it.
