Chapter I: "They just...""...hate me?"
The slamming of the kitchen door rang along with the last screams of the argument. Regulus Black watched as he older brother ran up the stairs to his room. Getting up off the couch he followed.
Reaching the room he leaned causally against the doorway, feet on the threshold. "What are you doing, Sirius?"
Sirius Black whirled around, shirts clutched in his hands, to face his younger brother. The boy was had his arms crossed over his chest. His brown hair, similar to Sirius' own only more tousled, as if his hands had been shoved through it all too often. His grey eyes glanced around the large room, taking in the mess.
"What does it look like I am doing?" Sirius spat out while stuffing his trunk and bag with his possessions. Well, the few he actually wanted.
"Mom and Dad didn't mean it," Regulus spoke, leaving the doorway as he moved further into the room. "They just…"
"…hate me?"
The younger wizard ran a hand through his hair. "Don't do this, Sirius. You will regret it if you do."
Sirius snorted and zipped his bag shut. "I won't regret the decision to leave home. I have had enough of their rants about how blood purity is everything. I might have soaked it all up as a child but I bloody well won't tolerate this now, not when I've realized there's more to life then being a pureblood and using it for power." He snapped the lid of his trunk closed. The older Black shrugged on his jacket and slung the bag over his shoulder, while grabbing a handle of the trunk. "I'm done with, I'm done with this family and how they treat me! I'm just done!'
Sirius shoved past his brother and matched down the stairs. Reg followed the older boy all the way out to the front door. Neither Orion nor Walburga Black were around, which made Regulus frown. His heart sank as the realization dawned on him. Maybe Sirius was right. Maybe their parents really did hate him.
"Don't leave me alone, don't Evangeline here with them. Your right, when we were little we soaked that pureblood crap up like a sponge. You and I both know she gonna do the same, she's only 9. And what's she gonna do when she realizes her older brother is gone." he whispered, eyes turning moist.
Sirius froze, the main door already open. The older boy dropped his trunk and turned around to face Regulus, his eyes taking in his brother's face. He was shocked to notice that a few tears were trailing down the pale cheeks. Heart in his throat, he stepped forward and embraced Regulus in a hard hug. He heard his brother sniff quietly as he buried his face in his brother's broad shoulders.
"I'll never leave you, brother, or Evie" Sirius whispered in Regulus' ear. "I'll still see you at school, and tell her I'll see her at school in a few years."
With one last squeeze, the older wizard released his brother and added "And remind her that no matter what they say" he pointed roughly at the kitchen door, "she'll always have her older, Gyffindor, brother to talk to at school. And tell her goodbye for me."
"Will do, Goodbye Sirius."
"Bye Reg."
He picked up his trunk and left, slamming the door shut behind him.
Tears resurfaced on both boys' faces.
"Reggie where's Siri going?" The young witch asked tugging on her brother damp sleeve.
"Sirius just left for school early this year." He crooked out.
"But I didn't get to say bye."
"You'll see him again don't worry."
"When?"
"Soon"
