Prologue
Temperance Brennan's face scrunched up as she woke. She started to open her eyes but was almost blinded by the sun streaming through the window blinds. She tried opening her eyes again, this time prepared for the onslaught of light. Once adjusted, she ran her right hand over her face
She reached to her right side, looking for the time on the alarm clock. Reading the time as 9:49 am, she groaned and started to get out of the bed. As she swung her legs out, she noticed that she wasn't wearing the pajama bottoms she'd brought with her, but instead a man's dress shirt, barely long enough to cover her upper thighs
A noise to her left startled her, and she turned suddenly, quickly covering her mouth to smother her gasp. Next to her laid a bare-chested Seeley Booth shifting in his sleep. She started to panic, and closed her eyes quickly trying to remember what happened. The sudden closing of her eyes brought on a wave of pain from her hangover and she groaned out loud.
Booth shifted beside her again, this time slowly waking up. Like her, his eyes closed and he groaned in pain. Sensing another person next to him, he looked over and his eyes widened. He took in her lack of attire and choked out, "Oh God."
Temperance stared back at him and asked tentatively, "What happened?" Booth shook his head and looked down. He looked up again as she ran her left hand through her hair, and his eyes widened even farther
"Bones…" he pointed to the hand on her head and she looked at him, worry etched into her features. Slowly she brought down her hand for inspection. She gasped and looked up at Booth. He too had been looking at his hand. He held his up for her to see and she matched his motion
There, on her left hand, she donned a single gold band identical to that of her new husband's.
