A Little Christmas Snuggle

by Bren Ren

The flannel sheets were soft, and she snuggled in, pulling the layers of blankets in close around her. She shivered; the sheets were still cold. She made a mental note to bring an electric blanket the next time she came up here. She pulled the blankets up higher, leaving only enough of her face poking out to breathe.

When she felt the bed shift beside her, she sighed. Then, as he pulled the blankets back to crawl in, she gasped as the cold air suddenly wafted over her. Then, just as suddenly, her backside was covered in warmth. She released a slow, deep breath and wiggled into him. Their bodies spooned together like they were made for each other; they were a perfect fit.

His arms curled around her, pulling her ever closer. His stubble roughened chin sunk into her shoulder, sending delicious tingles racing down her spine. She felt his warm lips pressing against her neck, and she tilted her head to give him better access. His other arm dug in below her head, underneath the pillow; his hand trailed down across her collarbone to gently cup her breast.

This was heaven. The love and need and desire she found in his arms, being held safe and tight and close, it was all she had ever dreamed of, more. Doubt was gone, fear had dissipated into the night long ago. For the first time she could remember, she felt completely at peace. She was safe, she was loved, and she wasn't alone.

"Thank you, Sam."

"For what?"

"For giving me the best Christmas I've had in at least a decade. I… I don't think I ever expected to enjoy the holiday again."

Sam moaned in soft empathy. She rolled back slightly, enough to look into his eyes. She cupped his face with one hand and pressed her lips to his. "Thank you… for… for still being here. I almost threw this away—"

He pressed a finger to her lips. "Shh. Forget it. All that matters now is… now." He returned the kiss with lingering indulgence.

"I love you, Jack O'Neill."

"Best Christmas present I've ever gotten." Jack kissed her again. "Love you, too, Sam. Always have."

They settled back down and slowly drifted off to sleep together, nestled in their private little cocoon, disconnected from the rest of the universe, their hearts inseparably bonded for all time. They had waited so long, fought so hard, sacrificed so much… it was finally time to take a little happiness for themselves.

I'm happy, truly, deeply happy. That last thought floated round in her head as she finally joined Jack in the world of dreams.
