Sure, he wanted had wanted a normal life. He was even kind of ticked off when Dean showed up asking for his help. He'd worked hard for his independence and resented the fact that he was back to filling the role of sidekick…little brother. It didn't take long though, for him to fall back into familiar patterns. Not long to remember the comfort of being taken care of, knowing there was always someone there for you…someone who had your back and loved you, no matter what. Maybe he'd wanted that normal life but now he knows the truth…independence is overrated.
