It was around July 2011.
Amy, Rory, and the Doctor were visiting Washington D.C. The Doctor, being the Doctor, went into every museum, monument, and gift shop he saw. Amy and Rory would wait outside every time the Doctor walked into a gift shop. It just seemed like the right thing to do.
This time, they were standing outside the Lincoln Memorial gift shop when the Doctor came out wearing a top hat.
"Doctor? What the hell have you got on your head?" Amy asked the Doctor upon seeing his new hat.
"Oh this!" The Doctor said, pointing at his head. "It's a top hat. I wear a top hat now. Top hats are cool." The Doctor then proceeded to take off his hat and admire its beauty.
"No they aren't! You look ridiculous with that thing on! Am I right, Rory?"
Rory, not wanting to disappoint Amy, replied "Oh, yes. Very ridiculous."
"See?" Amy said to the Doctor. Meanwhile, the Doctor had taken out a pocket mirror and started to look at the sides of his face.
"Amy, do you think I should grow side burns? Maybe I'd look even more handsome if I started to look like this Lincoln fellow." He said.
"No!" Amy exclaimed.
"I'll take that as a yes. Come along, Ponds. To the next museum!" And the Doctor walked out of the Lincoln Memorial looking happy and amazing in his new top hat.
"I think we should follow him." Rory muttered before taking off after the Doctor. Amy shook her head.
I'll just have River destroy it, then. Amy thought as she ran after her husband.
