Doubt of you

He held her hand the whole time.

She was unconsciously dreaming and not knowing it.

To be carried off into the medical room of the school, Saya felt herself lifted and freshly frozen in the arms of a man she had desperately been trying to kill for so many years. He loved, but hated, her deeply enough to do anything for her as long as it led her into an eternity of death and love with him.

Now she was awake and was wishing that all of this was just a dream.

Through her awakening, she met a blur of eyes; eyes similar to her own. She, slowly coming around, enjoyed the long silk hair touching her skin and elegance seen in this man. He was the chairman, and here he was; leaning an inch from her face.

Karl touched her forhead. A sigh left his lips and he leaned away from her blushed cheeks. He sat back in the chair sitting beside the bed, closed his eyes, and crossed his arms. "You're still ill. Miss Saya, why didn't you say anything before?"

Saya sat up, "Chairman, I-"

The man held up his hand to silence her. "I prefer it if you call me Karl." he made a sorrowful expression that made Saya's heart skip. She never seen such a man look so elegant. "Saya... you had me worried."

Suprised, the seventeen-year-old couldn't hide her blush, but she looked away nervously. Covers were brought over her mouth, muffling her voice, she said "I-I'm sorry. I wanted to make it to all my classes on my third day of school, but-"

Uncontrolling of himself, Karl leaned over to draw up closer to her face. Saya sunk into the bed with uneasiness. "No! No, Saya, you must understand that I don't want you to push yourself. I want you to rest when you need to. Now..." he shook his head. With such a voice that sounded as if he were acting out a tragic scene, he said "The evening is here and you've still a fever to worry about."

"... Chairman...?"

Karl blinked in confusion.

She sat up enough for him to slide away from the bed again. "I don't want to burden you, I can take care of this myself-"

"No, Miss Saya... It's me. You're not used to this heat." Karl shook his head again and unconsciously dropped his head on her lap. The red Queen tried to ease back, but he did not budge. "I care deeply about you."

It felt strange to have a young man his age to be so passionate and caring for a student such as herself. She wasn't the affectionate type, however, she had a feeling he wasn't either. There was something about his change of attitude and personality, as if he had suffered some kind of trauma in the past to make him snap. Right now, he was close to tears on her lap than she was to wanting to comfort him. He continued on muttering soft appologies to her that she had no hear for anymore.

"Chairman..." She rest herself on him gently and whispered into his ear, "I promise not to make you unhappy again."

Karl glanced at her in a calm manner and swallowed down his choke. "That's... very kind of you, Miss Saya. Forgive-"

"I forgive you."

"Then I hope-"

"I'll be fine."

"Will you-"

"Yes."

Karl sat up and touched the side of her cheek with his gloved hand. He felt her give into his touch and share a smile with him. His smile was not of happiness, but of disgust in the beautiful. Phantom wanted so badly to tear into her flesh and break her neck now, but his own side held back from it all to love her.

She reassured him, and he doubted her acceptance. Why love her? Why hate her?

"You'll do well." Karl pulled away to kiss her hand. "I wish you luck in my school. Take your time and do not get used to this treatment." he warned, walking towards the door.

Saya nodded.

"And Miss Saya," he paused at the door. "Don't forget about the dance next week."

"Of course not." Saya assured.

"Good." Karl shut the door but fell back against it. He had a feeling she'd come.
