Santana sighed as her stomach grumbled for the third time that night. She was exhausted, all she wanted was a good nights rest, but her persistent hunger pains were preventing that.

She never used to think twice about what passed her lips, but that had changed a couple of weeks ago when her mum had suggested she'd gained a little weight. Santana had initially dismissed the comment, it wasn't until later that night when she took a good look at her self in the mirror for the first time in a while that she thought more about it.

Santana had always been quite thin, she was lucky like that, but as she scrutinised herself, she started to notice the little areas of fat that had begun to grown unnoticed all over her body. How long had she been looking like this? She couldn't believe how unconcerned she had been with her body, and vowed then and there to get rid of the extra bits of fat that had made themselves a new home on her body.

The next day Santana had sat down at her desk and carefully written out her new goals, she was determined to lose 10 pounds.

Santana cut down the size of her meals, and stopped eating the chocolate her family kept on the bench which she normally snacked on. After one week, Santana was proud of herself, she had stuck with the alterations to her diet, it was time to weigh herself.

As she stepped on to the scales, she crossed her fingers that she had made some progress, but when she looked down she felt deflated. 132. Her weight hadn't changed.

With this weighing her down, she realised that she hadn't been working hard enough, so she decided that she needed to cut out snacking entirely. It then occurred to her that she wasn't going to get anywhere if she was relying entirely on her diet, so without a second thought she found some exercise clothes and went out for a run.

When she returned home breathless, she had realised why she never exercised, she hated running. However, she knew she had to if she was going to drop those 10 pounds, so she stuck it out and ran each day the next week.

Two weeks had passed since that night in the mirror, and Santana had lost one pound. Her happiness was fleeting, when she realised how far she had to go to reach her goal, and how much effort that was going to require.

Her stomach rumbled for a fourth time and Santana started to regret her decision to skip dinner that night. She had been laying awake for over an hour now and all she could think about was how she needed to lose those other pounds, and how getting up from school in the morning was going to be damn hard if her brain didn't shut up soon.
