A/N: A couple of people asked me whether there was more toFriend or Foe. That arc is finished, but I have decided to write this short companion piece. I hope you enjoy reading it!
Chapter 1: Data
"Come in!"
A smooth metal door marked Cadet Quarters 3A swooshed open to reveal Geordi LaForge, sprawled across a bench, Padd in hand.
"Hey, Data!"
"Good evening, Geordi."
"What's up?"
Researching current atmospheric conditions, migration patterns of native species with the abilities of flight, and shuttle schedules.
Cancel research. Incentive: Geordi has explained that the literal meaning of this phrase is not the actual definition.
Cancellation accepted.
Determine appropriate response. Open personal history files for the past twenty hours for something that could be considered worth relaying to Geordi.

This occurrence would be considered positive.
Since Geordi is my friend, he will likely be pleased.
"I have good news. The U.S.S. Trieste has accepted me aboard as an acting ensign for their next mission."
Geordi's eyebrows shot up. He hesitated for a moment before speaking.
"Wow, that's...that's great, Data."
Although Geordi's statement implies that he is pleased, his tone does not match his words.
Geordi is my friend. Therefore, I do not wish for him to be unhappy. Gather information as to why Geordi is not content. Form an inquiry.
"Does that fact displease you, Geordi? Would you rather me not take the mission?"
Geordi shook his head firmly.
"No! You should definitely take this assignment! The Trieste's a great ship, and serving on it will really help your career."
"Then why are you sad?"
"I'm happy for you—I really am. It's just that..."
Data tilted his head to the side, watching Geordi rub the back of his neck.
"It's going to be lonely finishing up my stay at the academy without you."
A pair of yellow eyes widened.
I had not considered that. Though I am ready to enlist, Geordi is not yet finished with his academy work. Due to the exploratory nature of the Trieste's mission, it is unlikely that I will see him again for approximately five years, two months, and ten to fourteen days.
Data opened his pale mouth, but no words came. He was still for a few seconds: an android's eternity. Finally, in a voice as soft and smooth as cat fur, Data spoke up.
"Geordi...the absence of your inputs will be noticeable."
Placing a warm hand on his friend's shoulder, Geordi smiled sadly.
"I'll miss you too."
A/N: There will be one more chapter in this story. I'm not a fast writer, but hopefully it will be complete in a little over a week.
