Chapter One: Harry's Weird Feeling.
Harry Potter woke up in his sleeping bag, stretching in plenty of directions. Ron was lying in a sleeping bag next to Harry. Harry sat up and slipped his glasses on, rubbing his scar carefully. It was sore. A burning sensation ran through the outline of his scar. He pulled his sheets back and slid out of bed, looking over to see if Ron was awake. Ron was in the middle of yawning while stretching. This was their last year at Hogwarts: School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry and Harry wasn't sure what to expect especially because no one was safe anymore. Dumbledore was dead now and now it's up to Ron, Hermione, and Harry to destroy the Horcruxes. Harry was dreading bringing one of his best friends, Hermione. Not because he hated her or anything because it was the opposite. She was the most brilliant, stunning, bravest witch Harry had ever met. He just didn't want her to get hurt or anything. She was the main reason he was still alive. She was so brilliant and calm that she just knew what to do in major situations. Harry pulled back the tent's curtain and walked over to Hermione's tent.
"Knock knock," Harry said with a slight morning voice, knocking softly on the outside of the tent.
"Come in, Harry." It sounded like she had woken up just seconds before.
Harry pulled back the curtain, crouching down, and sliding into the tent with Hermione. He looked in her direction, knowing something was on her mind. Hermione was staring down at her cover, looking as though she couldn't find the right words to say. She finally opened her mouth and spoke so quietly that Harry almost didn't catch it.
"Do you think he would have done it if Snape didn't?" Hermione's voice formed into a soft uneasy tone.
Harry thought about it for a moment. Malfoy was obviously showing signs of hurt, asking for Dumbledore's forgiveness, telling him that if he didn't do it Voldemort would kill Malfoy and his family. But then again Malfoy showed no signs of fighting back the urge to want to be a daddy's boy and follow Voldemort's instructions just because Lucius is a Death Eater. Harry made his mind.
"No, I don't think so. Malfoy was lowering his wand right before Snape killed him." Harry's voice broke uncontrollably,
"And I didn't do anything. I should have done something. Anyth-." Harry started.
"Harry, don't be so hard on yourself. Dumbledore must've had some idea about Malfoy being a Death Eater and knew Snape was helping him out. Dumbledore probably told you to get Snape so that he would kill him instead of Malfoy. He knew how much Malfoy didn't want to, Harry, but he knew it had to be done." Hermione slipped her hand into Harry's and nuzzled her face into the crook of Harry's neck.
Hermione did this a lot whenever she needed Harry to comfort her or care for her in a way no one does and Harry doesn't have a problem holding her hand or holding her for that matter but this time was different. This time he felt it. He wasn't sure what he felt but it was a strong chill rising up the back of his neck and all the way down his spine. It felt like a new form of holding her. Almost like a new person he was holding. Not the little girl who made them Polyjuice Potion in their second year, or the weird smart girl who shot her hand straight up in the air even if it was just to add a small piece of information to the teacher's demonstration. This was an older Hermione. No longer "little sister" Hermione. A bit more than that. Harry looked down to see if she was okay and she wasn't. Tears were streaming down her cheeks and she sniffled.
"What's wrong, Hermione?" Harry wasn't just asking it because it was polite, he actually really did care.
He saw her look right up at him as she squeezed his hand tighter,
"Harry don't you see? With Dumbledore gone there is no Hogwarts. What is going to happen to all the kids? Who will teach them that respecting people no matter their bloodline is the most important thing a witch or wizard has to learn?! What will happen to Hagrid and Buckb- I mean Witherwings? Hogwarts is practically their home! It's practically my home!"
Harry didn't respond, he only held her tighter.
"Hogwarts isn't safe anym-" Hermione didn't get to finish because Harry "shhh"ed her. He had never seen her so worried since O.W.L results. Hermione looked up into Harry's green emerald eyes and leaned a bit closer to his face. Harry thought that what he had been waiting for is about to happen but instead they were interrupted by a loud rattling noise coming from the bushes outside their tent. The two of them pulled away just enough get their wands out.
