XashXdawnX - So I was getting a lot of requests to do a sequel to Hunted Down. I've thought it over and given it much thought and I think I finally came up with an idea. So without further ado here's the first chapter of Hunted Down's sequel: Escaped.
I own nothing and all rights go to the respectful owners.
Joe's organization was quiet, none of the gifted young adults were roaming the halls. They were all sound asleep in their rooms and Joe was working late in his office, a soft glow being casted into the hall from the light. Yet, only three of the rooms were filled with belongings for only Ash, Dawn, and Gary remained in the organization.
Two years ago, Misty had left. One day with training, she had lost control of her power and had nearly killed Gary. Dawn had to steal her power in order to save Gary's life, but he had fallen into a coma. Misty had locked herself in her room and had refused to come out. The next morning, she was gone. The only thing left on her nightstand was the ring that Alexandria had given her when she had first joined the organization. That was her way of saying goodbye and no way for Dawn or May to contact her telepathically.
Gary woke up from his coma a week later and was given the news of Misty's departure. Needless to say, he was sad. Sure they had broken up about six months after getting together because their powers had complicated things, and just their personalities clashed too much, but they were friends. But he felt that this had brought up bad memories for Misty. The vision of what could have happened when they had been running from Team Forgotten. Gary had drowned in the vision and Misty hadn't been able to save him in time.
Things in the organization went on as usual, but Dawn had noticed a change in May's attitude.
About a month after Misty left, May said she was leaving to search for her and Drew volunteered to go with her.
Now, in the present time, none of the three that had left had contacted any who remained in the organization. Dawn liked to believe they had managed to live a normal life.
Dawn sat up in bed, gasping. Her hair clung to her sweaty face. Her breathing was ragged as she tried to calm down.
"Dawn?" Ash's voice came, groggy with sleep.
Ash sat up beside her and touched her shoulder gently.
"What is it?" he asked, softly.
Dawn looked at his eyes in the dark. Only able to see his eyes because of the slight glow that was illuminating from them because of his aura.
"Trouble. My uncle...he's back with William and Aversa. They've escaped. They're coming for us. He told me my dark side will be reawakened and the this time I'll lose myself..."
"Hey. That won't happen." Ash said, grabbing her hands which were shaking.
"We beat them once and we'll beat them again. We can tell Joe, if you'd like?"
Dawn nodded her head and Ash placed a comforting kiss on her forehead before he climbed out of the bed. Dawn grabbed the dark blue silk robe that was on the chair beside Ash's bed and pulled it over her light pink silk pajamas. Ash pulled on his shirt and the two headed for Joe's office.
Walking down the darkened hallway, Ash could sense Dawn's uneasiness.
"It'll be okay, Dawn." he said, taking her hand and squeezing it.
"I just have a bad feeling." Dawn said, barely audible.
They arrived at Joe's office whose door was still propped opened. Ash tapped on the door.
"It's open," Joe's voice came.
Over the two years that had gone by Joe's hair had gotten some gray to it and he now had a beard.
"Ash, Dawn, is everything okay? It's quite late." he asked, looking up from his papers.
"Not exactly. Gary will need to be woken and here too." Ash said.
Joe nodded his head and pressed a button to wake Gary.
A few minutes later, Gary walked into the office, bleary eyed.
"Is something wrong?" he asked, sitting down and running his hand along his face.
"Dawn?" Joe asked.
"I was contacted while I was asleep." Dawn said, softly.
"Contacted?" Joe questioned, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes...by my uncle. He told me that Aversa, William, and himself have escaped and are coming for us. He also mentioned that my dark side will emerge and this time I'll lose myself."
"Anything else?" Joe asked.
"No. I couldn't figure anything else out. I couldn't gain any signs of where they were or anything. I only know the other two are there too, because he allowed their voices to be heard."
Joe was quiet for a few moments as he thought over everything.
"Okay. You three will be going to a safe haven. I'll stay here in case they come here first." Joe said.
"So we run? And let you take them on yourself? Joe they'll kill you without hesitation!" Gary cried.
"It's my duty to keep you three safe. I have a contact that will help you all. I'll contact them and they'll guide you and help you."
"But Joe-"
"This is an order, non-debatable. You three are to leave tomorrow afternoon. No further discussion."
Silence filled the room. Each teen feeling helpless with this arrangement and wearing expressions of worry.
"Now go and get some rest."
They nodded their heads and silently left the office, heading back to their rooms.
Dawn followed Ash back to his room and put her robe back on the chair, before she climbed back under the covers.
"Ash?" she asked, softly.
He hummed in response.
"If I do lose myself, will you promise me you won't let me hurt anyone? You'll do what you have to do if necessary?"
"Dawn..."
"I can't hurt any of you or anyone else."
Dawn was staring at the ceiling as she spoke. She couldn't bare to look at him.
"But I can't lose you." Ash said, his voice cracking slightly.
Dawn rolled over and looked at his eyes.
"I'm hoping you wont, but just in case. Promise me." she said, caressing his face.
She was pleading with him to agree to this.
Ash sighed and placed his hand over hers which was still on her face.
"I promise, Dawn."
Dawn gave him a chaste kiss before she rolled onto her other side and Ash wrapped his arms around her.
As sleep overtook her, he laid awake, listening to her breathing and soft snores. His mind was thinking of the promise he had just made her. Would he actually be able to keep his word?
He sighed and closed his eyes, falling into a restless sleep.
