Monster.

Roy Mustang was a monster. He didn't have fur or fangs or scales but, he was undeniably a monster. The people he killed would surely agree. He had lost count of the numbers. They were no more than the glasses of scotch he drank and no less. He had lost track of that too. Slowly the faces melded into one, one terrified, screaming child who cowered from him. No doubt, he was a monster.

Or at least he was until Ed. Edward Elric was a prodigy. At the age of eighteen he stood four foot eleven, not counting his hair and boots. The first thing you noticed about him was his height. Then the silver chain of his pocket watch, the pocket watch of a state alchemist.

After Mustang fell in love with him the people who called him a monster began to look upon him more kindly, as he was with "the alchemist of the people" now. And the ones who had called him a hero now called him a monster because, he was a colonel and Ed was a major, and because they were both men and because the age gap was so great.

But, Ed didn't care and slowly the child that screamed in the night began to fade and Roy drank less and sometimes he forgot that he was a monster. He got promoted. Again. And again. And soon he was a general. Ed still called him a bastard and he still called Ed a shrimp. And they were still in love.

The road was long and treacherous but when Roy stopped drinking all together and stopped sobbing in his sleep, the men knew that they had reached the zenith and they raised their hands in victory.

A/N: yeah, I'm nuts. Review and ummmmm I'll give you roys gloves.
