It was all just a normal day, like it is every other day. Cherry's in a new foster home with the a new foster family, and she has the smallest bedroom in the whole house with just a book to read, not that Cherry minded.

But then the letter came.

Cherry hummed as she read her book The Secret Garden and listened to the sound of Mrs. McGregor cooking downstairs. The McGregor family was an ordinary family, with ordinary things. They did things in an ordinary way and everything was just...ordinary.
Cherry would be living with the McGregor family as a trial to see if they would take her fully. It was only Cherry's first week and she did not really want to mess it up.
The McGregor family was an ok family, they didn't love Cherry but treated her in an ordinary fashion.
Mr and Mrs McGregor had a daughter named Sarah who was a few years older then Cherry and quite snobby. Cherry was used to snobby kids, so she didn't mind Sarah so much either.
Mrs. McGregor was a plump lady with raven black hair and soft green eyes, with a few wrinkles here and there. Mr. McGregor was a very tall man with light brown hair and tough brown eyes. His voice was so deep , it sounded like someone had put Darth Vader's voice box down his throat.
Sarah was popular at school and tall for her age (14). Her sleek black hair swept across her back and her blue eyes were dull. Her face was a bit pinched and her mouth was quite tight.

"Sarah! Cherry! Supper's ready!" Mrs McGregor yelled from downstairs.
Cherry pulled herself out of bed and walked out of her room to the smell of Roast beef and mashed potatoes. It made her mouth water. Mrs McGregor was a very good cook. Probably the best foster parent Cherry had ever had who could cook.
Hopping down the stairs, she heard Mrs. McGregor call again "Oh and Cherry dear, do you mind getting the mail please?"
"Yes ma'am" Cherry replied.
Cherry walked to the front of the door and examined the new mail as Sarah came pushing past her.
"Anything for me?" Sarah asked snatching the mail out of her hands and flicking through them. "Bills, bills, letter from Auntie Julia," she murmured "Oh!" She cried out, holding a thick, yellowy parchment . "Something for you!" She looked at it, bewildered.
Cherry's heart leaped. A letter? For her? She never received a letter before, mainly because she didn't have any relatives and she was always moving from one place to the next. Who would write to her?
"Something for Miss Cherry Fire" Sarah looked up to Cherry. "Is that your last name? Fire?" she sniggered "A bit pathetic really."
Cherry rolled her eyes, as if McGregor was any better. But then she realised. A letter for her, signed to her, it also had her last name on it! She had a last name?
"Give it here, Sarah" Cherry instructed, holding her hand out. Instead of handing it to her, Sarah ran out of the room and into the kitchen.
"Mum, look! A letter for Cherry!" Sarah called out. Cherry raced after her.
"It's my letter, give it back!" Cherry reached over to grab it. Sarah easily dodged the grab and ripped the envelope open.
"What's in it?" She pulled a bit out and read it aloud.
"Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry" she looked up. "What the hell does that mean?"
"Sarah!" scolded. "We do not swear and read another person's mail! Please give that back to Cherry" Mrs. McGregor said.
Sarah humphed and threw it over to Cherry. "It looks boring anyway" she helped herself to some roast beef.
Cherry's heart pounded inside her as she picked up the letter to read it. It was heavy for a little thing and it read on the front in emerald green ink:

Miss Cherry Fire

The Smallest Bedroom

4 Privet Drive

Little Whinging

Surrey

This had to be a mistake, there could be plenty of Cherry Fire's out there. Cherry may not even be a Cherry Fire. But, Cherry couldn't help but feel that maybe this letter really was meant for her.
She held her breath as she looked inside and pulled out a sheet of paper.

Headmistress: Minerva McGonagall

Your sincerely,

Deputy Headmaster

Cherry's insides started to tingle. Was this letter really adressed to her? Who was Minerva McGonagall? What was this school?
"Excuse me Mrs. Mcgregor, have you ever heard of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry?" She asked, looking up from her letter.
"Witchcraft and Wizardry? What a load of rubbish. It's just chainmail. Go pop it in the fire place" Mrs. McGregor simply said.
Cherry was hesitant. She didn't want to throw this letter in the fire. She wanted to keep it and re-read it, over and over again. But, Mrs. McGregor was giving her a nasty glare, probably because she was religious and didn't like the whole witch nonsense. Slowly, Cherry popped it into the fireplace and left the room, without getting any roast beef. Going into the cupboard under the stairs, she let herself think.
"I will get to the bottom of this, Harry" she whispered to the cupboard. There was a small engraving on the cupboard walls that was signed Harry's Cupboard. Probably from the old owners of the house. She only just found the cupboard yesterday. When she had seen the engraving, she had decided to call her small thinking place Harry.
Harry, she liked that name.
