I'm going to escape. After being stuck in this horrible institution or whatever for all my life, I'm going to be free. And it will be easy. I am Sign, and I was genetically altered in a place called The Institution for Higher Living. But I call it the institution for higher hell. Every day they do weird tests on me, trying to see what mutant powers I have, every day I see failed experiments on other children. I can't even begin to describe the things that come out of those experiments. But now I can leave.
Sticking my long, thin fingers through the bars on my dog cage, I manage to undo the latch and open the door. I had practiced this many times before, but never had the chance to do more than unlatch the door; there was just too much security. But I overheard that tonight most of the guards are somewhere else. I get out of the cage and stretch. God, the least they could have done was bought me a bigger cage! Stepping silently, I walk over to the glass and peer outside. The frizzy-haired woman was staying late again. She glances over at me, and at first I thought she didn't see me. But then she looks again, gets up, and starts walking very quickly over to me. This is when the fun starts.
"What are you doing out of your cage?" the woman says furiously. She presses the pad to open the glass, and I pounce on her. I bite into her thick neck and begin to suck her warm, sweet blood. Word to the wise: if you don't want your blood sucked out, don't make a mutant out of a human, cat, and vampire bat. After I've taken enough blood to make the woman unconscious, I stand up and begin to look for a door. I see one over by the computers. That one leads out into the sewers, but it will work perfectly. I grab the woman's keys and wallet and run to the door. The door's locked, so I begin trying keys as fast as I can, and I finally get all the locks. After opening the door I run through the smelly sewers. I have to get away before any Erasers, bloodthirsty (in a different way than I am) half human half wolf creatures, start to chase me.
I begin to slow down as I near a metal ladder. I hope this goes above ground I think. Gripping onto the slimy bars, I begin to clime to freedom. Some who knows what gets on my shirt, but I don't have time to worry about being dirty. When I reach the top, I see a way out though a hole. Pushing the metal circular thing out of the way, I clime out of the sewers, smelling the fresh city air. I'm in a large park, and the beautiful full moon shines down on me through the trees. I think I'll stay here for the night.
