Disclaimer: I don't own Dark Angel, it belongs to James Cameron. Unfortunately.
Edit 31/12/11: I reread this the other day and realized that I really need to look over it again, so it's a lot better to read now.
I'm going to kill him.
That is exactly what I'm going to do, I'm going to kill him.
I sent Alec on a routine raid to get supplies for Terminal City, we've been running out of tryptophan and we needed to get some more before people started having seizures. Alec volunteered to go get some, he was supposed to be back two hours ago.
I can't believe I made him my second in command. How could I have been so stupid? He probably left, skipped town because he decided he was bored with responsibility.
I paced back and forth in the control room erratically, feeling the eyes of the other transgenic's following my movements. I glared at them before heading down to the garage because I figured if Alec did come back then this would be the first place he'd show.
Suddenly I heard soft noises coming from behind me in the direction of the garage entrance and I turned around to find Alec leaning nonchalantly against the far wall. He had a large backpack slung over one arm, and his hand on an X6's shoulder who looked to be about fifteen years old.
"Hey Maxie!" he smirked, "Did ya miss me?"
"What took you so long?" I asked snappishly. "You were supposed to be back here over two hours ago!" I couldn't believe he was so calm, didn't he realize how worried everyone else had been? "And don't call me Maxie!"
"Ah, come on Maxie" he grinned, "I had to pick up a new recruit, found this one here running from a few sector cops with a heat scanner, took a little while to shake them. You wouldn't have wanted me to just leave him, now would you?"
"Whatever, just get up stairs and get that tryptophan to the Doc." I glared at him as he gave me another quick smile.
"As you wish, my lady." He said, his eyes twinkling with laughter as he gave a mock bow.
I snorted, "Just get upstairs, I'll debrief you later." I watched him walk up the stairs leading out of the garage. "Hey, Alec!" I yelled, he turned around, his eyebrow raised questioningly. "I'm glad you're alright."
Alec just smirked. "I'm always alright, Maxie" and then finished walking up the stairs X6 in tow.
Maybe I should put more faith in him next time.
