Fairytale.
"'You can't do this to me!' cried Alicia, her voice carrying over to where Marco stood; aloof and uncaring.
'And why's that?' She didn't need to see his face to know he was smirking in that bitter yet suave way, a bad habit she thought she had cured him of.
'Because…' Her courage was failing her, but he had to know, "Because I love you."'
Why do I do it? Read this sort of trashy romance? I know what will happen in the end, it was obvious less than half way through the first page: Alicia will find out that Marco would be disinherited from his super-rich family if he continued to go out with her, but in the final moments of the "book", he would go running back to her, uncaring of the consequences. A fairytale ending, though god knows that doesn't happen in real life…
Okay, that isn't fair. I just got the job of my dreams, I'm a doctor like I've always wanted. I'm young and fairly pretty. I've got a flat of my own (in muggle London, no less!). I've got good friends and family, my best friend is my close cousin, Albus Potter, who I see almost every weekend. Christmas is coming up. Life seems pretty good, right? But I'm at home alone reading trashy holiday romance books, a cold and unopened Chinese takeaway on my lap. And I haven't seen Albus in ages, I've been too busy working or sleeping. If life was a story then Al would turn up outside to take me out and celebrate my new job, with his gorgeous best friend, Scorpius Malfoy. Scorpius, who I've crushed on for god-knows-how-long. Ages. Since school? My god, since school! I mean, I've had all sorts of relationships, including a really serious one in uni (until he cheated on me, that is), but I can't help liking Scorpius. In the background, of course (sort of. Slightly. Not really… ). If life was a fairytale then Al and Scorpius would turn up out of the blue to see me, and Scorpius would have realised he loves me!
Oh, who am I kidding? If life was a story, I wouldn't be the main character, nothing exciting enough happens to me. I'd be a background character, the cousin and best friend of Al Potter, the lead singer of his famous band - Make Believe. The quiet, studious background character, Rose. Ugh, isn't that a horrible thought? A background character in your own life? No wonder I read cheesy love stories in my spare time…
"Her courage was failing her, but he had to kn–"The doorbell. Can I be bothered to get it? It'll probably be someone from National Gas. Whoever it is, they're bloody determined, that doorbell just isn't stopping. I might as well go and get it. Oh. Oh my Merlin.
"A-Albus?"
"Hey Rose! Short notice, I know but Scorp and I were hanging out and talking about how we hadn't seen you in ages, so we were wondering if you wanted to go out for a bit?"
Because sometimes, just sometimes, life is like a fairytale.
