DEATH OF A HERO

O'Neill was dying. He knew at once that the wound was fatal. The life was leaking quickly out of his body. Already he could not feel anything—he was numb. He looked up into the eyes of the other man and saw something he hadn't expected—sympathy.

"Carter," he whispered. "Tell Sam I..." his voice failed.

"I know," the other one said. "I'll tell her."

O'Neill's lips moved in a silent 'thank you.' His vision faded and he never knew it when his eyes closed.

The other man knelt beside the body for moment longer, then rose with a sigh. He was turning toward the door when his teammate hurried in. She stopped when she saw O'Neill's body and a visible shiver ran through her. "He's dead?"

"Yes." He rubbed a hand over his face. "His last words were for...her. For Carter. Said to tell her..."

"She's gone, too, sir," she interrupted. "The power coupling she was working on exploded. She shoved me out of the way..."

"Ah. Well." He didn't know what else to say.

"Maybe it's kinder like this, Colonel—that neither of them knew the other was dead."

"Do you think they..." He didn't finish the sentence, just glanced back at O'Neill.

"Yeah. I think so, sir." Under her breath, she added, "I know she did."

They looked at each other in silence.

"Jack! Sam!" The shout came from the corridor. A moment later, Daniel Jackson appeared in the doorway. His eyes went immediately to the still form on the floor. "Oh, god," he said softly. Then he looked back at the tall Colonel. "Are you all right?"

The Colonel nodded. "Yes."

"What about the others?" Daniel asked

"Gone, too." He nodded toward O'Neill. "He died with Carter's name on his lips," he added. He looked from Daniel to his teammate. "What should we do with them? Take them back with us?"

She shook her head. "I think we should return them to Harlan's Planet, sir," Sam said. "That's where they belong. And he'll want to know."

Jack ran a hand through his hair, and gazed down at his lookalike's body. He tried to resist the feeling of foreshadowing that swept over him. "Yeah. You're probably right. They belong there, not on Earth." He frowned. "Besides, if the scientists get ahold of them, they'll take 'em apart to try and figure out how Harlan made 'em. And somehow that's just wrong..."

So this was just a little scene that came to me. Obviously, not quite the way the episode Double Jeopardy ended. It was too bad that the androids 'died'. I think they could've complicated SG-1's lives in many interesting ways!
