A/N: Just a small story I though of while talking to a friend of mine, nothing much but I'd like to hear your opinion of it ;P
Sleepless nights like this one were a common occurrence for Jim Kirk, ever since he enrolled at the Academy two years ago. He would wake up, sweating like crazy and hyperventilating, feeling as if he needed to find something, something very important. His only hope of going back to sleep when this happened was to go outside and take a long walk while trying to sort out his chaotic thoughts.
His dreams were never the same. Sometimes he was back home in Iowa with Sam and his mom, other times he was standing alone in an alleyway or he found himself in the control room of a starship, ready to set course to some unidentified place. The setups of his dreams were as numerous as they were tiresome but they all boiled down to one thing: the search for something important.
He had thought about telling Bones about the dreams, but Bones still considered him (relatively) sane and Jim preferred to keep it that way.
Letting his feet lead him to wherever, Jim smiled over the stray thought about his best friend. It was a sort of a miracle that he hadn't figured out Jim's problem by now as the doctor was always bothering him about his health. Breaking away from his musings, Jim thought that it would only be a matter of time until he started to notice the bags under his eyes and the insane amounts of coffee he drunk every morning.
"Well, this is new," Jim murmured out loud once he took a look around. He was currently standing in what seemed to be a large park, though he had no idea there was even a park so close to the Academy.
There was a small, newly planted oak tree standing to his right, surrounded by bushes. Further away, there was a weeping willow towering over a small pond, leaning slightly over it so that its low hanging leafs almost hid it completely from sight.
Making his way over there, Jim spotted a figure sitting by the pond, throwing something dust-like in it. He slowed down so as not to startle the person there. When Jim was just outside of the leafs he saw that the figure was a lean man, throwing tiny breadcrumbs in the pond, feeding the fish swimming there.
As he stood there, watching, Jim felt more at ease than he had in a long time. The afterthoughts of his dreams faded away and the slight throbbing in his head vanished all together. Finding that he was smiling for some reason, Jim decided that he didn't want to disturb the peaceful man and opted to turn around and find his way back to the Academy and his bed.
But when he turned, the leafs around him rustled. The man by the pond immediately looked up and directly into Jim's eyes. Feeling as if he were frozen to the spot, Jim stared into the darkest brown eyes he had ever seen. The two of them were completely still as they watched each other, neither daring to move nor break eye contact.
Everything around Jim was gone in his mind as he kept looking into those strange brown eyes. There was nothing but them and the slight familiarity that came with them. "I know you" The phrase seemed to echo in his mind and it was as if he had finally found the thing he had been looking for. That he had finally found the lost object in his dreams.
The other man was the first one to blink, to break the contact they had shared for what seemed like hours but was probably only mere moments.
Shaking his head, Jim furrowed his brows in thought. This had been a weird experience, one he didn't understand and that set him on an edge. Seeing the man nodding as in a greeting towards him, Jim echoed the movement before turning on his heel and walking away.
He had enough to think about on the way back to the Academy dorms the most dominant of which being the feeling of completeness for the first time in what felt like forever.
