Sora shivered against the damp cavern walls, rattled his chains, and glared. It was all he could do, besides–
up to your waist now, getting higher
—flinch against the sharp-netting twisted and wrapped tight around his mouth, making him bleed each and every time he—
up to your chest now, getting higher
—screamed at Demyx (that the salt water burned, to get away from him, to stop touching him, nononodon'tdothatplease-) and then (when Demyx said he was bored) screamed for Donald and Goofy and finally (as realization set in)—
up to your shoulders now, getting higher
—for Riku, the King, Kairi, God, someone, anyone, doesn't-matter-who, to just save-him-please-and-he-didn't-want-to-die-not-yet-please.
But he was done yelling now. He was focusing his entire energy on breathing through his nose, keeping still, very still, and just hoping that... but there was always hope, he reasoned, even now, when—
up to your chin now, getting higher
—those blue-green eyes were glinting with a smile, so sweet, so kind… so false, so heartless, Goofy would've reminded him—if Goofy and Donald hadn't been chained to a lower platform and—
up to your mouth now, getting higher
—already drowned.
And now there were bubbles sputtering from his bleeding mouth—
up to your nose now, getting higher
—and Demyx smiled, sweeter still, and lowered his own mouth to the water, blowing happy bubblegum-bubbles to match Sora's oh-depressing weakening ones, until they grew smaller and less desperate and finally–
up to your forehead now, getting higher
—Sora stopped making them all together. A minute passed, and another—no bubbles, no protests, no warm-blood trickling from his mouth. He was dead, dead and gone, and so—
down to the ground now, getting lower and lower
—Demyx stroked the island-tanned skin, still wet, still (if he pretended hard enough) warm and alive.
"I probably shouldn't have killed you... I think the Elders wanted you to free more hearts, y'know?
He pressed their lips together (both were cold and dead, but for different reasons) and smiled against them.
"But I told them they were sending the wrong guy…"
