She kept running into the darkness without knowing where she was going. She just knew she wanted to get away. She needed to get away. Without stopping, she continued to move with such speed that shocked even herself.
"Elena!" she heard echo through the trees. At that moment she stopped for the first time. She couldn't see him even when she squinted. She turned to move again but found herself dropping to the floor, screaming in agony.
Within seconds she felt his arms wrapped around her, gently rocking her to calm her down. She continued to scream as the fire in her gums became unbearable. He continued to sooth her as her life was falling apart. At last she stopped and looked up at the man who was craddling her.
"I... I don't want to be a vampire" she said whilst tears formed in her eyes. He didn't say anything, he just simply put his arm around her as she sobbed.
"It'll be okay" he whispered into her ear, stroking her arm as she cried into his chest.
Elena looked up at his handsome face and fought back the tears.
"What if it's not Damon?"
"I promise, I will not let anything happen to you" he said earnestly. Elena shaked her head. "I will not let anything happen to you" Damon reinforced.
"How can you say that with such certainty?" Elena asked, wiping away some tears that escaped.
Damon looked at her then, her big brown eyes wide with fear, her body shaking with nerves. "I won't let anything happen to you. I can't lose you"
Elena smiled despite her world tearing at the seams. She knew no matter what happened, no matter what she does, Damon would be there by her side.
"Damon?"
"Yeah?"
"I think I need to feed"
