author's note ..

This is the result of a write-off with a friend, using a song as a prompt ( for this one, "Soft Revolution" by Stars ). It was timed, so, probably isn't as good as it could have been.

Kingdom Hearts is not mine.

something terrifying.

There was something nauseatingly satisfying about these group missions. It meant that they could cause a little more pain, a little more chaos, and steal a few more hearts than they'd bargained for; Larxene, being the Savage Nymph, and all, couldn't pass up an offer like that.

Today, she was accompanied by Seven and Eight. They formed a quiet circle on the outskirts of town, arms crossed impatiently in wait. It was late afternoon and the sun was awfully bright, dangling above the horizon like a lit firecracker, too hot and too foreboding. The town was defenseless in their ignorance; she savored every second of unprepared bliss, lips pulled into a hungry grin beneath the darkness of her hood.

There was no warning when the war began: all at once, screams overwhelmed the sleeping town, brought on by a cloud of white Nobodies. Their zipper-mouths opened wide as the harvesting commenced, one heart after another disappearing into the sky like flickers of light, too quick to be caught. Within moments, swarms of black began to line the streets, the Heartless, predictably following the hearts that they had sensed. It was always the same. They would never learn.

The three moved like synchronized machines, weapons materializing between grasping fingers. They were quick and efficient, and it was a terrible reality for the townsfolk: the Organization could be in and out of their precious home before sunset.

Each of them was merciless, but tactical, while still maintaining their fake personalities in the disarray. Axel was cocky, as always; he nearly danced across the sidewalks of broken glass, reciting overdone movie lines as the local drunkard struggled to escape his chase, and eventually, failed within a pillar of fire. They were lucky if they ran into Saïx, for while he was the cruelest of them all, he hardly wasted time playing with his food. It was Larxene who had a fetish for sadism, and found an empty sort of satisfaction in watching others squirm.

She was in one of the quaint cookie-cutter houses, aiming to flush out the residents who had gone into hiding during the invasion. There had been a mother and her two children -- but now it was only the mother, and a ravenous-looking Nobody looming in the doorway.

The woman's sobs were hysterical. "Why are you doing this?" She asked -- and Larxene cocked her head to the side, smiling lethally.

"Hmm? Why so sad?" She purred, crossing the room slowly, the tapping of her boots barely surpassing the noises from outside. She remembered what it was like to be on her side of the game -- the losing side, the stupid side -- but the memory only encouraged her. Ignorance is bliss, and bliss will get you killed.

She lowered her face to the woman's, and murmured sweetly: "I'm here to save you." I'm here to make you feel -- something real, something terrifying. I'm here to start a revolution, and you'll learn what's truly precious.

Another heart disappeared into the sky.
