Roderich walked up behind Elizaveta and wrapped his arms around her waist. She reached her head up to nuzzle him.
"Hello. What are you watching?" asked Roderich.
"Gilbert. He's getting stronger. What if he comes here?" She turned her beautiful green eyes upwards to look in to her husband's violet ones.
"My dear, he won't come here! Don't worry yourself!" He began to hum her favorite tune and spin her around. Soon they were doing a full out waltz.
Elizaveta danced until she couldn't because she was laughing to hard.
Suddenly, she was worried.
"Roderich, if Gilbert DOES come here, will you allow me to fight alongside you?"
Roderich paused. "Elizaveta, why would you say such things? He won't come for us, and if he did, I could handle it myself."
"I know... But I feel so helpless. You won't let me or anyone else help you. You're so independent."
Roderich felt like he'd been slapped. Elizaveta had never said anything like that before. Was he closed to all help? He hoped not.
He pulled his wife close. "I'm sorry. I don't mean to be. Yes, you could help me. I just don't want any of my loved ones in danger."
Elizaveta smiled. "Me neither, but sometimes, to get the things we need, we must take risks. I can watch myself; I did quite a number on Francis when he tried to look up my skirt the other day. Take Italy for example, she's never going to be able to do anything if you keep her in the position of a maid. For all we know, she could be the next great world power, but if we don't teach her how to do everything, we will never know."
Roderich laughed at the though of Italy being the next world power. "We have Holy Rome, is one powerful child living in our home not enough? Besides, even if you managed to become a proper lady with such a tomboyish childhood, I don't think Italy would be able to."
They laughed, remembering Elizaveta's chaotic childhood. For almost an hour, they sat perfectly still, holding each other, never wanting it to end. Suddenly Italy and Holy Rome ran in.
"Veee! Mr. Austria! Mr. Austria! Mr. Prussia is outside! He says he is calling you out! He wants to take Mrs. Hungary away from you! Help! He is burning the beautiful flower meadow!" sobbed Italy.
The two grownups looked at each other in pure terror. They weren't ready! They had not anticipated an attack. Roderich held his shaking wife close.
"Don't worry. We'll be fine."

Soon after, the Austria-Hungary Empire fell.
