"Raindrops keep fallin' on my head . . ." by marauderluverz
Prequal to "The Girl I Love"
It was his first summer without her, and he missed her more than he had thought he would. Severus Snape was sitting in some bushes near the Evans' house. He was very well hidden and was content just watching the house, when he felt it.
A raindrop.
He looked at the sky. Severus sighed It was going to rain and he knew it. He turned to begin his walk home and hope he wouldn't get drenched too badly in the August thunderstorm.
But then, he heard it.
Well, he heard her.
The sound of her door opening.
He quickly sunk back into his hiding spot. Severus saw Lily step out onto her front porch. He sighed. This time with contentment. He had been hoping for the chance to see her before he went home. And there she was.
So perfect.
So angelic.
So beautiful.
He loved the way her crimson curls cascaded down her back. She was wearing a baggy t-shirt and shorts. He felt more raindrops land on his head. He decided that he'd head home when she went inside. However, instead of going inside, Lily slipped off her sandles and walked out into the light sprinkle. Severus just watched her.
After a minute, the rain became heavier. Lily didn't seem to notice though. Her hair and clothes became soaked. She tipped her head up towards the sky and opened her mouth.
At first Severus didn't understand. Then he smiled, she was catching the raindrops.
Lily looked around, as if checking to make certain she was alone. She began to dance. Just twirling and such, but a dance none-the-less. Severus wanted to be over there with her. Well, not dancing, but sitting on the porch steps. He wanted her to begging him to join in, even though she knew he wouldn't.
He wanted to be friends again.
Best friends.
Severus hadn't noticed, but now looking at himself, he saw just how drenched he was. Suddenly, he heard Mrs. Evans' voice and thought he had been discovered.
"What are you doing out there?!" she called, and then he realized she was talking to Lily.
"Lily Marie Evans, get back inside this house now! You're going to catch pneumonia!"
Severus saw Lily roll her eyes, something that truly surprised him.
"Coming, Mum," she called. With that she stepped back on the porch, grabbed her flipflops, and headed back inside. The last thing he heard right before the door closed was,
"Lily you're going to get the couch wet . . ."
Severus just smiled, then he turned and headed back home.
