Sugar Cookies

"Lily, what are you doing?"

"Huh? Oh, hello Julie."

"Hello, so what are you doing?"

"Day dreaming."

"About what?"

"Cookies."

"Cookies?"

"Yes, cookies. I like cookies. Especially sugar cookies."

"I know I've seen you on a sugar cookie high. It's not pretty."

"Oh Julie, it wasn't that bad."

"You serenaded James Potter and declared your undying love for him."

"Exactly, it wasn't that bad."

"Lily, did I hear you correctly?"

"Yes, Julie you did. He has changed don't you think?"

"I suppose so. Lily, are you ok?"

"Splendid. Thank-you for asking. They're subtle changes. You wouldn't really notice them if you didn't pay attention."

"And have you been paying attention?"

"I have always paid attention. Julie, what does he see in her?"

"Who is he?"

"James."

"What does James see in whom?"

"Claire."

"Well, to be perfectly honest I think he sees everything he doesn't see in you."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean that you have spent so many years evading him that he is finally trying to get over you and the best way for him to do that is to go out with someone who is the complete opposite of you."

"Do you think that means that he still might like me?"

"I know he still likes you?"

"How?"

"Sirius told me."

"Why?"

"Because I asked, and he can't stand Claire."

"I can't stand Claire either."

"Why not? Claire has never done anything to you; I thought you got on fairly well with her."

"She is seeing James."

"And that's a problem because…"

"She's not me."

"She's not you?"

"Nope, she's not me."

"So are you going to tell him?"

"I think it fairly obvious that she isn't me."

"Don't be a smart alec. I mean are you going to tell him you like him?"

"I can't."

"Why not?"

"I don't have any sugar cookies."
