"Now that it's raining more than ever,
Know that we'll still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella."
~Rihanna

Rain can bring a plethora of emotions to people; some can enjoy the pitter patter of water drops on their windows, making them soothe and relax. Some cower under blankets to block out the harsh pounding during a thunderstorm. So many feelings on one small phenomenon. With all the emotions swirling around like a paint wheel, it's not hard to get lost.
But it wasn't the case for one man.
The rain drizzled down one summer day in the small town of Reefside, it was unexpected to say the least. It wasn't unexpected to catch a man walking in the woods outside the city, after all, he did live out there. Normally, people hurried to the nearest shelter to stay as dry as they could; he however welcomed the cold water. No, he wasn't crazy at all, rain just brought some good (and some not so welcoming) memories.
Rain washed away all the guilt he felt growing up, how he nearly killed the first people he considered friends…
Rain showed that even something powerful as earth can be washed away…
It also rained when she left to go pursue her dream.
"I'll come back soon. Reefside will always be my home."
Just that one phrase gave the man a ounce of hope.
"Maybe then I'll tell her…"
It's been four years to the day since that day. Ever since then he's been fighting his feelings for his friend…his comrade. He couldn't go to New York to see her; there was too much to do at the school.
Or so he kept telling himself.
The drops suddenly stopped and looked up in puzzlement. "How…?"
"Since when did you start wandering around without any protection?"
He looked up to see light blond hair and a big smile. In her hands was a simple yellow umbrella, covering them both. This had to be a dream…
"Hello, earth to Dr. O!"
He blinked then looked at the woman. "How did you know I was out here?"
She shrugged. "There's not many places you would go. Besides, if I wanted to be somewhere quiet, this would be it."
Point taken.
Tommy seriously had to wonder: what attracted him to this woman? Was it her ability to comeback with a snappy comment? Was it the fact that she had to save him a couple of times? Or was the fact that among all of the team, she was the first to come to him? Not as a mentor, not as a father type…but as a friend?
He found himself holding Kira's hand, feeling the warmth through his fingers. He looked to see her smiling face back at him. "Come on, I doubt you wanna catch something."
All he did was nod and followed the yellow ranger. He would tell her how he felt about her soon, but for now, sharing a moment like this was all he wanted right now.
Sometimes the rain can bring something good as well.
