Warnings/Spoilers: Yes, if you haven't seen Season 4

Summary: Sam gets visits from two of his favorite girls.

Escaping Demons

Sam lay back on the bed, easing his head onto the soft motel pillow, eyes closed. Ruby sat on the bed beside him, a beguiling smile on her face.

The young Winchester licked the last of the demon blood from his lips, marveling at the surge of power even these few drops granted him. He breathed deeply, astonished at the wave of power that filled his chest.

He was more than what he had been only a few moments before.

Head humming, hands tingling, heart hammering.

Unstoppable. Unbeatable. Unbelievable.

And what big brother Dean didn't know...wouldn't hurt him. Not really.

"Wake up, grumpy," a voice whispered. Sam turned his head away from the sound and moaned.

"I told you what you're doing is wrong."

Sam sat up suddenly, snapping out of his slumber. Ruby was gone, and he was alone in the motel room.

"Who's there?" his voice sounded strange, thick and deep. "Leave me alone!" Sam bellowed. No voice could tell him what to do. He was invincible.

"....no more, Sam....," the raspy voice whispered.

"You're dead!" Sam swiped at the air, stumbling out of the room.

But escaping demons wasn't that easy.

A/N: I've recently been revisiting Season 4, contemplating Sam's addiction. What feelings of deceit and dismay his friends and family must have felt. Probably my favorite season of the show.
